Posted: 3/20/07 at 9:56pmcant say your point's without merit, sean-martin, but im not sure how determinative (is that a word?) it is: we bottom feeders never really decide the commercial success or failure of a broadway show. at best, clever marketers rely on us for word of mouth ... it's a broadway show's ability to reach a *broader* audience that affects the math that matters ...

Posted: 3/20/07 at 10:00pmI've already gotten mailings about CORAM. COme to think about it - I think I got a mailer from Journey's End, too.

Posted: 3/20/07 at 10:03pmyea, a mailing's nice, but overall it's been anemic -- there wasnt even a display ad in this sunday's NYT. ive watched this closely ... so far, the promotion has been a fraction of what's ordinary, let alone what's needed here.

A mailer doesn't mean squat.
So far, NOTHING has made me want to see this show. Maybe if one of them convinced me to....

GOSmile...I agree with you wholeheartedly ! I think the current war has a big effect on people deciding on whether or not to see the show, as much as the effect it had on me seeing it. It was hard to not cross reference.
That being said, it was a terrific night of theatre, and a wonderful ensemble piece without exception. I can't remember being moved as much at any play in the past several years. I think the producers are mistaken to not make a bigger deal of Hugh Dancy as I'm confident he's the next big thing. I've seen him in 2 movies already and he was fascinating-a true hunk that can act. At least he should be making the rounds of the NY talk show circuit , if anything just to display his charisma and good looks. You'd hope that would be enough to spark interest for people to see the play. I wish them the best !
P.S. And Stark, if you're reading this, congratulations on a fantastic debut as well. You are a terrific young actor and gave a truly memorable and emotional performance.

mmmmmm ... i could just as easily argue that a drama that so poignantly depicts the pointlessness of war would play well in a metropolitan area that is so predominantly opposed to the pointless real war that our pointless president is pointlessly waging.
IF the people in that metropolitan area even knew about it. (the play, that is.) =:o
