I know there was a thread several months ago about her but for the life of me I cannot find it. With my luck...its right in plain sight but I'm blind to see it
ANNNNYWAAAY
I have spent the morning watching youtube videos of Julia at concerts/interviews/shows (because I'm stuck in terminal for a while so what else is there to do? Haha) and I just need to know....how has this women NOT been in more Broadway shows.
In my humble, honest opinion...her voice is superb. There really is no other quite like it. I personally believe what makes the difference between a good vocalist and a superb vocalist is their uniqueness. A lot of people can hold hold pitch and some can hit/belt high notes but only a few can really punch out and sound different and make you stop and listen.
And her acting...that is a another story. She really is someone who can not only own the bejesus out of a score but act it well too. Her "People" from the Funny Girl benefit concert rivals Streisand in my opinion.
She did an interview with the Actors Fund recently and she stated that she would love to play Dot in "Sunday in the Park"....can someone please make this happen? And while your at it, cast her as Diana somewhere. In fact, someone just originate a role for her.
So yea...that is my gay boy rant for the day. I sound like a freak I know...but do I care? Nah...should I? Prolly. Will I? Nope
Anyone feel this way? Haha

I was actually just talking about her two days ago!

We threw her out as an unexpected, yet potentially brilliant, Dolly.

wow...I didn't even think of that part for her. But you are right!
Is she a traditional Dolly? Nope...but she could own the **** out of it.
Another part is The Witch in "Into the Woods"

Julia did get to play one of the most popular characters in musical theatre, Elphaba in 'Wicked', from January - October 2007. So, that's really not bad at all. Her first Broadway show was unfortunatley a flop and got bad reviews. I am surprised that she has not found another project that has come to Broadway.

Even though I really didn't like 'The Little Mermaid' on Broadway, she would've been terrific as Ursula.

Oh yea I mean WICKED goes without saying. But she really needs to be on Broadway MUCH more. And I agree about Ursula.
Another one that keeps coming up in my head is Joanne in Company...not for another 20 or so years but someday...Or Desiree in "A Little Night Music"

I don't care what she's in, just get her back on Broadway.
Just watch her Colored Lights and see how she creates an entire world in a single song:

I've said it before and I'll say it again - she's going to be an incredible Madame Rose one day.

OHHH another one I just thought of.

Margret in CARRIE.
Holy Jesus. Could you imagine her singing "And Eve Was Weak"?

Murney enjoys a very lucrative career as a voice-over artist. It allows her to be very choosy about her Broadway and theater projects.

As for n2n, now that the show is getting done regionally, I'd be shocked if she didn't do the role somewhere soon.

Oh, ye gods, I can't agree with you more. I've also found myself having a 'Julia Murney You Tube Concert' every so often. Her voice is just phenomenal. You've put it very well that she has a voice that is not only beautiful, but makes you listen. I think given a major part in ANYTHING, she would catapult to the top. Just my views.

...and I assume most folks around these parts know that her father Christopher was in the OBC of MACK & MABEL.

She deserves to originate a role...forget about sticking her in a role that she'd be great in but was created by another actor. I'd love her to do something new, different, and completely original. :)

Can we get Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey to write a sequel...NO..prequel to NEXT TO NORMAL...and have Julia Murney star as Diana? One can dream....

Murney is an incredibly nuanced, precise actor (as that video of "Colored Lights" so beautifully demonstrates.)

While she has a phenomenal voice, I'd be equally excited to see her pursue plays in the future.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

She is one of my favorite performers and I'll see her in anything, but I sure hope that she gets to originate a juicy role soon!
