It's so sad that her vocal cords are basically torturing her now.

I remember hearing that when she was asked to sing a song on Princess Diaries 2... she asked them for a song where she can speak the words to music ..

She is such a talented singer... Mary Poppins...

I absolutely adore Julie Andrews. I just watched her sing the Lerner & Lowe medley...gah she is heaven. Completely lovely woman.

I could not be more upset that she can no longer sing like she used to. =(

The loss of Julie Andrews' voice is a bit like losing your reproductive organs. It seriously pained me to see her do that medley. They had to bring the key down (considerably, it seemed), but she sang it like a trooper and brought the house down. Some people, no matter how old or past their prime they are, deserve to be onstage and perform like that. And she's one of them.

It's awful that someone like her lost an incredible talent while others screech on.

She's so poised. I think that's what really made her stand out to me- aside from being a great vocalist, she has such an elegant prescence, even on film.

YES! That's the word... poise. It's like she demands "Look at me, I'm classy and am worth more than any of you sitting out in that audience." I honestly think she's the best female singer of our time. In a time when Ethel Merman was considered to be the greatest vocalist alive... it's nice to see that talent like Ms. Andrews was nurtured.

My partner worked on designing the cruise ship, the Crystal Serenity a few years ago. The ship was christened in England by Dame Julie Andrews and we were invited to attend. As the crowd was assembling, there was a boys choir singing maritime-related songs (to which nobody was paying much attention). The dedication was beautiful and Dame Julie looked lovely (although I was hoping for an Eliza Doolittle-type hat, she was bare-headed). As soon as the ceremony was over, the boys choir started singing 'All I want is a room somewhere...' and the entire crowd uttered a collective 'awwwwwwwww' in pleasant recognition. Dame Julie, who had been making her way off the dias, stopped, turned around, looked at the boys choir, and smiled this genuine, warm smile that radiated up to the back rows of the bleachers where we were seated. She's a lovely, gracious lady upon whom I have had a crush since my mother first took me to see Mary Poppins at the St Francis Theatre on Market Street in San Francisco in 1964.

Besides that voice, her presence is so incredible onstage. She absolutely sparkles onstage. What a goddess.

She ia also one of the kindest people you could ever wish to meet. Ask Rachel York about her an she can gush for hours! She needs to come back to broadway in a straight play, because she can act too!

Ever since I was a child I have loved Dame Andrews. I would watch Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music over and over again, just to hear her sing. I remember crying in 5th grade, when I read in the newspapaer about her voice. I would do just about anything to meet her, even if just for a moment.

She is amazing. Although I've only seen her live once, and that was in the totally awful Victor/Victoria. That ruined my appreciation a bit to be honest.....BBBBRRRRR

I love her. She is amazing. It's such a tragedy about what happened. It actually makes me kind of mad. I had to tape BLT 3 yesterday because I was going out. I can't wait to watch it. I've never seen it.

Julie Andrews is the first person I saw sing on the big screen, in The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins. She is the reason I chose to become a performer. I loved the way she presented herself, the fun she seemed to have when she sang and the ease and grace with which seemed to do anything and everything. She is pure class.

"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!" Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!

It is so good to see people talking about MY Julie. Let's see, between the ages of 5 and 10, I saw The Sound of Music between 30 and 40 times...all the way through. The Rodgers and Hammersteinian Society of Musical Appreciation has since banned me from ever watching it again...something about letting others have a turn. *grumble* Then, there was the devastation when I got my autographed postcard from Maria von Trapp...she didn't look at all like she did in the movie!!! I wish I still had that...sigh. Yes, I have since managed to reconcile that Maria and Julie are not the same person...kind of.

The only other role I can accept Julie in is the Queen in Princess Diaries 1 and 2. I can't even accept her as Mary Poppins. To me, Julie is, and always will be, my Maria.

We love you, Julie. (((kramar)))

Julie was definitely dealing with the nodes during Victor/Victoria and, being such a trooper and the fact that this was her husband's baby, I think she continued to perform when she should have taken time off. While V/V wasn't the best work she's done, I was AMAZED at her ability to keep up with the kids who were dancing in the show. She also showed her true class when, after there were no other Tony nominations for her show, she declined her nomination. It's an incredible show of support for the creative team of that production.

"Julie Andrews is the first person I saw sing on the big screen, in The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins."

Same here. Mary Poppins was the first movie I saw when I was very young. I strongly believe that film, and its star, is the reason behind my love for musicals. Loved her in the Sound of Music and Thoroughly Modern Millie, then later in the film Victor Victoria, and the Princess Diaries. Most definitely a class act.

J. Wilkes Booth, loved your story! re: Julie Andrews is Amazing

Watching her in Victor/Victoia was pretty painful. She had many problems when I saw the show. Liza was actually much better.

Sound of Music was one of the most loved Movies of all time I think.

Julie brought Maria to life... Voices like hers rarely exist anymore..

Yes, again, me too. I watched Mary Poppins every day, twice a day when I was 2. And don't ask me about The Sound of Music, I couldn't count. I think if I ever met someone who couldn't stand Julie at all, I would freak out, major. Or if they haven't heard of her.
