Haven't heard anything about this. "Prospera" (the male character formerly known as "Prospero) will be played by Helen Mirren. Alfred Molina is Stephano, Djimon Hounsou is Caliban, Alan Cumming is Sebastian, and Chris Cooper is Antonio. I am a great admirer to Taymor's Titus.

This production hasn't generated a ton of news, but as I remember it, filming is going on in Hawaii and the cast will also include Russell Brand and Christopher Eccleston. (I was hoping the latter would be Caliban, but Hounsou should be interesting, too.)

I'm actually really excited to see this. Taymour has a great vision that I think will lend itself well to The Tempest. We actually had gotten into a discussion in one of my classes about Mirren playing "Prospera." Interesting stuff.

Can someone tell me why Russell Brand is in this?

I don't WANT to live in what they call "a certain way." In the first place I'd be no good at it and besides that I don't want to be identified with any one class of people. I want to live every whichway, among all kinds---and know them---and understand them---and love them---THAT's what I want! - Philip Barry (Holiday)

Because his agent is able to land him acting gigs as well as comedy, and he met with the director's vision for the role? It's not like he's Prospero or Ferdinand or Ariel or anything; he should be fairly bearable as Trinculo.

Now, Ben Whishaw as Ariel, I'm excited about. Although as a whole, this film has a long way to go if it's going to be as impressive as the RSC's recent production directed by Rupert Goold...

Who remembers the Molly Ringwald film version of this, in the late eighties?

Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

Molly Ringwald?! Really? I just got ill.

I'm gonna have to watch that...and cringe.

Actually, it was from the early 80s.

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter
