OMG! I am soooooo excited about this. My Mom just bought us tix today. I love love love Julie White and Mara Davi is singing!!! And its for Make a Wish which is such a great cause. I can't wait!
Who else is going? My Mom had a discount code so if anyone wants cheaper tix, use the code MAW35.
I have read about this. It sounds like fun. There hasn't been much out there about this. But I think with some of the talent involved and it is for a good cause. I'm going to see about getting my tickets for it.

The "Phone Book" is ON for tomorrow evening.
Please do join us for a wonderful evening. In the words of our dear friend Fraulein Kost..."and bring your friends!"
No, Studio 54 is one of the few theatres still open.
Anyone go to this tonight? I was there and want to know what others thought. I found the night incredibly uneven overall. I just think the concept wasn't as exciting in execution as people had anticipated. Also some of the performers originally announced weren't there, including Laura Benanti and Kate Shindle. Oh well.
Yea, it was so bad. I wish I got the cheaper seats, because it was empty so I could have just moved down, but it was for a good cause so I'm not too upset. I forgot Laura Benanti was supposed to be there, so that upsets me even more. Julie White made it sort of worth it, does anyone remember exactly what she said about Mel Brooks and Ben Brantley choking on a chicken??
Laura didn't show up?
That's a joke right?

Did she go on strike too?
Who wants to make the joke on Laura's attendance record?
Obviously, she does.
Maybe she just doesn't like that theatre, because her attendance was fine for Wedding Signer and Gypsy, no?
does anyone remember exactly what she said about Mel Brooks and Ben Brantley choking on a chicken??
She was talking about the Make A Wish foundation and how Mel Brooks' wish was that Ben Brantley would choke on a chicken.
I think Julie White and Erin Davie were the best parts of the evening. Alan Campbell was great too. I thought they could have done a better job with this than they did, but hey, the money went to a good cause.

I so wish I could have seen Erin at this. Glad she was good.

You know, the idea behind the show sounded interesting, but I had a feeling that it might not be a truly fantastic evening. Between one thing and another (including a lack of funds), I didn't get a ticket for it. Sounds like I don't need to kick myself too much for missing it.
Although I *adore* Julie White and I'm sure she was wonderful.

I found it quite entertaining; the audience was laughing quite a bit throughout the show. Julie White's jokes were, as usual, quite hilarious. I never thought that singing names from the phone book (like "Maria, Maria, Maria") could be so fun. A bunch of songs with their words changed, sorta like Forbidden Broadway. Some performers sung songs without their words changed - or as Julie White joked, they "wimped out" hehe. Beautifully sung - this Broadway cast was TALENTED! Their voices were just incredible. I'm just sorry the mezzanine was a bit less than half-full. A show like this should have been sold out. The ushers did let people who bought the cheaper seats in the upper mezzanine move down, which was nice.
It's odd. Kate was announced in both the Phone Book and Broadway Loves THe 80's press releases...wonder if she did either or none...or just the 80s gig.
hey, everyone
sorry, Just_John, that you thought we were "so bad"
- wow - from where I was singing, it didn't sound like the audience thought it was bad... I had to turn "Maria" from West Side into a phone book song, AND make it funny - AND still make it sound vocally strong AND pretty - the jokes were all made up then and there - most of us had to do that, and there were tons of laughs, so I don't think it was as miserable a failure as it sounds
The other thing one must remember, is that for these kind of things, there is usually little to no rehearsal. it's for a good cause. I don't want to sound like I am bragging for the group, but to get up there an come up with those jokes on the spot is NOT easy... and I think we all did a great job.
To those who had a good time, I am glad. There was a great feeling in that room - just knowing that we were all there to raise money for a worthwhile charty. For all those who bought tickets (and it wasn't "Empty") thanks for coming :)

Never mind, just got word that Kate was sick and missed both benefits. Sucks... I know she would have sung the sh*t out of anything at EITHER benefit.

I had a great time. Standouts for me were Julie White, Erin Davie (best rendition of "Memory" ever), and Brian Charles Rooney...and I'm not just saying that. "Maria..Lopez" and "Suddenly Sanchez" had me dying just a bit. Kate Rockwell and Brooke Sunny Moriber also sung the heck out of their songs. ETA: How could I forget about Barbara Walsh?! Fierce.
It was sad to see the house as empty as it was. A friend and I had tickets in the last row of the rear mezz and were allowed to move to the orchestra- we scored fifth row, center. It was a great cause to support and the energy in the air really exuded that support.
All the best to the Make A Wish Foundation; I plan on continuing to support them as best I can!
Did they actually sing the phonebook?
Most of them sang songs with a few words replaced, either from the phone book, the dictionary, or Mad-Lib style.
Erin Davie, however, quite literally sang the phone book. To the tune of "Memory." She sang the emergency numbers page, including the parts in Spanish. Definitely a highlight.
Barbara Walsh trying to come up with rhymes for "rise" was priceless, too. "Rise, fries...menopise!"
Erin Davie rules. :)
