It's well known that Sean Connery was a chorus boy in the original London production of South Pacific. I always assumed that he played opposite Mary Martin as Ensign Nellie Forbush but have just discovered that not to be the case and it was in fact Julie Wilson in the role.
I know Miss Wilson to be a highly regarded and regular cabaret performer in NYC in the intervening years and wondered if those good folk of BWW, who may have seen her, recall her sharing any anecdotes about South Pacific in London generally and Sean Connery in particular?
Saw Wilson in Legs Diamond & Jimmy.
She & the opening number were the best thing in Legs. I confess to liking Jimmy as a guilty pleasure. She had a great number called The Charmin Son Of A Bitch from Jimmy.
We have seen her in cabaret many times, and although she still attends, she rarely if ever performs. But her CDs of Sondheim and Porter and Cy Coleman are master classes in song interpretation.

She played Bianca in the 1950s TV version of Kiss Me, Kate. Here's her "Always True to You in My Fashion":

Thanks for those. She's obviously run, and I mean this as a compliment, the gamut from A to Z. The Kiss Me Kate sequence was great fun.
If you get the chance, the next time she's in attendance, ask her about South Pacific in London.
