I stage doored Julius Caesar last night and let me tell you, the system they have set up there is awesome. They have tight baracades down across the theater, in a line around the block and into the street, it's practically single file. Denzel comes out, you give your pile of whatever you want signed to this security guard, give this other security guard your camera, greet Denzel, get your photo taken, and he signs all of your stuff with his own blue Sharpie (I had 2 Playbills and 2 DVDs). You say goodbye and next in line moves up. It's a great process, I wish they had done it that way with Hugh Jackman. It's nice to be able to get a photo with the actor as opposed to just of the actor. Not to mention that Denzel looked damn good if I do say so myself! He's there through Sunday...oh and by the way I didn't even see the show, too poor, so if you can't get tickets and just want to meet him sneak in after the performance and grab a playbill. They won't let you stand in the line unless you have a Playbill with you. Good luck!

Posted: 6/9/05 at 12:14pmI swear when I got his autograph (yeah I waited), he signed a name other than his. It began with a G and there was definitely a B in there...none of which = Denzel Washington. For those who got autographs, does his autograph look like "Denzel?" Just curious.

Yes, the Shubert Org wins with the way they had security set up for Caesar. Initially Denzel didn't even WANT barricades -- he just wanted to come out, greet and chat with the fans. I don't think he realized all the people who would fawn all over him and ask him to bear their children (lol). In the end, security actually won that battle and I think he's probably happy about that. It's always a mobscene over there.
Ideally, I need to get back and take a better picture with Denzel because thanks to the obnoxious people behind me, he looks all pissed off in mine, but it doesn't matter. I won't get over there before Sunday anyway.
Glad you had a nice experience... my only complaint was how anti climatic my meeting was lol But damn he is gorgeous in person...
Oh, my autograph actually does read 'God Bless -- Denzel'. Then again, I was first in line, so maybe his signature gets lazier as the line goes on.

God Bless...well that certainly makes sense. Have to check it out once I get home.
I happened to walk by one of the first Sats JC was open and was surprised to see 1) him out after a matinee between shows and 2) that he stayed for so long. It was a big mob scene around him, spilling into the streets. I'm sure security had its way not only for Denzel's security, but for the safety of the patrons as well.
I'll have to wait and see how my pic turns out. When I got to the front of the line, the security guy who takes pics wasn't there and Denzel was like, here...look (doing one of those self-pics of us)...I'm a professional, I know what I'm doing. :) Of course I didn't believe him and asked the next lady in line to take our pic again just to be safe. Denzel said jokingly, "ok, you don't believe me...but watch, my pic will turn out better." We shall see!
While Denzel is the name, where do the other actors leave the theatre from? Didn't see nary one of them leave.

That's so funny -- I wish I had a story like that.... I'm REALLY wishing that the woman behind me didn't piss him off so much that night. He was all smiles and sweetness to me till she had to go and act like a jackass lol.
The other performers all exited from the stage door the night I was there. It was my experience though that so many people were concerned with meeting Denzel/waiting for him to come out they didn't even notice the other actors. Tamara Tunie was so funny though -- spent about 10 minutes chatting with me and pointed out that nobody else noticed her.

Posted: 6/9/05 at 3:44pmI waited for Jessica Hecht, but Denzel was there, so i figured I might as well have him sign it. He is very kind and gracious.

You can borrow the story if you'd like. :) Thinking back though, it happened kinda quickly (I mean basically I called Denzel a liar :) )- I don't even remember if I smiled!
He is very generous to sign for EVERYONE after EVERY performance. I guess I just missed the other actors. Funny no one else recognized Tamara.
