Hey! I will be in NYC for 8 days this July, partially to attend the Broadway Teacher's Workshop and partially for fun because I've never been! I have the time and means to see 11 shows. 4 are already covered by the workshop (Hamilton, On Your Feet, Tuck Everlasting, and Shuffle Along) and that leaves space for 7.
I'm pretty attached to getting to see American Psycho, Fiddler, Fun Home, School of Rock, and Aladdin. The final 2 spots have: Bright Star, Waitress, and The Color Purple as possibilities. I know a lot of people on here see everything- so whats the recommendation? Am I missing something fabulous from this list?
I live in Dallas and used to work for one of the performing arts centers so I have seen most shows that have toured, and we are getting Something Rotten and Finding Neverland at some point, so I don't want to see something that will for sure tour here later. I've got a calendar with the show times and what days these shows run on so eventually I can just highlight and figure out the timing logistics of this whole endeavor!
Also, please be kind. I see a lot of rude comments on here. I'm sorry I don't live in New York, this is a dream trip and I just want to make sure I see everything! At least I'm not posting about how to score Hamilton tickets, right? :P Also, anyone else on here going to the teacher's workshop, or have you gone in the past? Thanks everyone!

From the 3 possibilities you listed for your last 2 slots, I would suggest you leave out Bright Star and see Waitress and Color Purple.
Sounds like you prefer musicals, but if you'd like to squeeze in a play or 2, you might want to check out Curious Incident, The Humans or The Crucible.

I love Fun Home and The Color Purple, and they both feature great numbers and powerful performances. She Loves Me is also truly delightful, so if it gets extended to July, which is unlikely, that would be a great choice. If you like plays, Curious Incident would be a fantastic option.

With that number of slots, the Color Purple is a must see. Don't skip it. Even if this revival tours, you want to see it in NY as the performances are not to be missed. I haven't seen Bright Star or Waitress yet.
You might also check out what's playing off Broadway at that time. It might be fun to experience what it's like to see a show in a smaller theater.
And if you want a REALLY unique experience that doesn't require you to use up a slot, check out Sleep No More. It's not for everyone and is more of an interactive experience than theater, but they have a late night show Friday that you can do AFTER seeing something on Broadway. It's a fun way to get in an extra show. Here's a thread on it: https://forum.broadwayworld.com/readmessage.php?thread=1029260

Which dates are you going to be there? I'm also going in mid-July, and I'm filling in Monday, July 11 with Tony Yazbeck's solo show at Birdland. Works out perfectly since Monday is dark for most shows. If you're going to be there then and have nothing scheduled with the workshop for that night you should check it out.

WOW 11 shows! You're so lucky! And here I thought the 5 I'm seeing on my upcoming trip was a lot haha!
Your show slate seems really incredible -- I'm so excited for you! It'll be the time of your life (and it definitely doesn't hurt that you're seeing Hamilton, which has become one of my all time favorite shows).
Based on the shows you expressed interest in, I would say you should definitely see Waitress. I'm sure The Color Purple is great too, but they just announced that Jennifer Hudson is leaving the production on May 8th, so if she's the main motivating factor for you wanting to see the show, you may want to pick something else. I really want to see Dear Evan Hansen off broadway -- it looks super cute!
Also I second the poster who recommended you do Sleep No More after one of your shows -- I've done it 3 times, and it's honestly one of the most memorable, mind-blowing theatrical experiences of my life :)

I was just in NYC a few weeks ago and saw Bright Star. I really liked it. It was a neat story. The staging was fantastic. I wasn't sure if I would end up liking the music or not, but I did! You could try and get a rush ticket for $30. I was really happy with my decision to see Bright Star.

If you are willing to go off-Broadway, Daddy Longlegs is fantastic and a must see.

I'd also add that while it is a shame Hudson is leaving the Color Purple in May, I'd still see it for Erivo and Brooks. In my view they were both sensational. Hudson was good as well, but her departure definitely doesn't change my view. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Erivo gets the Tony.
Hope you have a sensational trip!

100% agree with this. Cynthia Erivo was The Star, but I thought the rest of the cast was fantastic as well. I don't think Jennifer Hudson leaving will have a negative impact in any way.

I definitely agree with the multiple posters backing Color Purple. It is fantastic. The real star is Erivo so it wouldn't affect my interest in seeing it again if Hudson is gone, as long as Erivo is still there. Waitress would be my second choice on your short list ... it was very good. Bright Star was also good but it would be my third choice from your short list.
As another poster stated, She Loves Me is awesome .... if it happens to extend into July that would be on the top of my list. The same goes for Dear Evan Hansen.
Several people have recommended Curious Incident ... it is great, but you will have a chance to see it at ATT/Winspear next season (along with Finding Neverland and Something Rotten as you stated) so I would skip that.
I am not sure what your dates in July are but if you are interested in a play, I highly recommend the Crucible .... I am still thinking about it several weeks later. It is currently scheduled to run through July 17th. Also, Cats opens July 14th.
I was really disappointed with Fiddler .... if I were you I would replace Fiddler with Color Purple, Waitress, Bright Star, Crucible, Cats, Daddy Long Legs, or either of the two shows I mentioned that will probably be closed by the time of your visit - She Loves Me and Dear Evan Hansen.
