I've heard about a THIRD Wild Party. Any thoughts or information ? Thanks.
THE WILD PARTY is my favorite musical of all time. I saw it first in very early previews (3rd) and although I saw the show later on, I feel this meaner and more operetic version is the best. No, I just missed "Betty The Clamgirl", but there was a part of "Heaven"... plus that fabulous final song for Queenie before Burrs bursts in.
I thought I pretty much had plunged the depths of this show, but this post blew my mind:
"Other characters that aren't given a full backstory and development during the show still have good stuff to work with: The Brothers D'Armano deal with trust, jealousy and infidelity, as well as Mae who deals with her regrets of leaving the theatre and personal image issues. Nadine is kind of a one dementional innocent girl yearning to be a grown up, but what Queenie, True and Jackie subject her to is simply disturbing, and the rape pounds the last nail making sure she'll probably never be the same after that night and will go the same way as Queenie and Dolores. There's a really interesting lineage in those three characters, a sorta going-there, in-there, been-there thing. Dolores tries to "help" Queenie but Queenie, even though she can see herself in Nadine, only stokes her fire. "
I will never look at the show the same way again... nor Queenie's "rules" as dictated to Nadine (and Delores's words of advice given to Queenie (also four times) throughout the evening...). I thank MrSweetNAwful.
This score and this show are a rich tapestry of innovative genius. This show is the FOLLIES of our generation... and for good reason.

You should really get both recordings, they're incredibly different. Lippa's is really accessible and I can listen to the songs when my ipod is on shuffle and enjoy the individual song. LaChuisa's is a very complex piece and works best if you listen to the whole recording from beginning to end. And both of the casts are great.
I recently discovered this show as well and its amazing. "PEOPLE LIKE US" is one of my favorite songs its just amazing!
