I was bored this afternoon so I shelled out $15 for "Mame" at my local Suncoast and watched it as soon as I got home. I haven't seen this movie in a while and had forgotten most of it. Goodness, Lucy's voice sounded very froggish. Angela Lansbury should've been offered the role. The only cool thing about the film are the sets and of course, the one and only, Ms. Bea Arthur. I usually Love Lucy, but I think I only liked her this time around.

So, you BOUGHT it. That’ll teach you. In the future rent it first, then buy if you like it. God, that movie is bad. Or ask here on these boards for our opinion to help you next time, before you spend your money. As if our opinion matters! LOL

Well, the movie is good for a laugh. :)

I know I probably shouldn't have bought it, but none of the local video stores had it and I wanted to see it just for Bea Arthur's performance. Oh well..

Sell it on e-bay... you probably won't get your entire $15 back, but you might get [some] of it. (And who knows... maybe there's a Lucy fan out there willing to pay semi-big bucks for this movie!)

Why did the costume dep't make Bea look like a linebacker for the NY Jets in that film?

Now go and listen to the Forbidden Broadway version of "If He Walked Into My Life" by the Angela Lansbury impersanator. One of the lines goes something like "Should I let Lucille Ball wreck it all again?"
LOL! Lucille was dreadful in that movie!

Didn't Robert Preson play Beaurigard (sp?) in that film? I agree that it wasn't a great performance by Lucille, but I do love Robert Preston. :)

Oops, I mean Robert Preston.... That's what I get for not previewing my response before posting! :)
Is there another video of MAME out there without Lucy? God, this hurts, to type "without Lucy."

Roz Russell's AUNTIE MAME is a gem.
I know I know that Lucy's Mame is supposed to be dreadful, but when I saw it as a young'n as my first exposure to the musical, I thought it was delightful. I can also see how Lansbury would be a dream. Or Cher (just kidding!).
I think we can all agree that that moment with Bea and her boys arriving up the stairs toward the end is DIVINELY funny!? =)

Not to put Bea Arthur down... but I thought she always looked like that!
I like when Lucy and Bea sing Bossom Buddies. LOL They are both such great comedic actresses, that their facial expressions and getures during that number are just terrific.

The weird part about Mame is that Bea Arthur's husband directed it. You would think he could make her look better.
