Hello all. I'm new to the board, and as an aspiring young actress I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to help me answer a few questions.

1.) How do actors obtain equity?
2.) Where are the best places to go to be involved with summer stock, and how and when does one go about doing so?
3.) Does anyone have any information on the Cap 21 program @ NYU?

Thanks so much for your time, any bits of advice anyone has would be extremely helpful...feel free to drop me a line @ stagedreamer04@yahoo.com

Stay away from CAP, go to School of Ed's musical theatre program, which is much better for voice. I don't know about summer stock, but from what I've heard you need 50 equity points to get your equity card (received by being in equity shows).

one really good summer stock blace is the Barn Theater in Augusta , MI. Some famous alums are Marin Mazzie, Tom Wopat, Barbara Marineau, to name a few. They put on awesome shows

How to get an Equity card:

Broadway shows and Equity national tours have all Equity casts. Most Equity regional theatres across the country (summer stock, dinner theatres, Shakespeare Festivals, etc.)are alllowed a certain number of non-union cast members.

Equity has a Membership Candidate program. You sign up for the program, and once you have worked 50 weeks in Equity productions, you can get your card. It may take a few years, of course.

If you are cast in a role that HAS TO be filled by an Equity performer, you get your card right away. For instance, if an Equity theatre is doing a show that only has five performers, the odds are that they all have to be Equity.
