What does everyone think of the recording of Urinetown? I just bought it for my station and I've heard great things about the show...I'm hoping everyone likes the actual recording too :c)
For example...I loved seeing The Scarlet Pimpernel, but wow! does the recording get on my last nerve! Christine Andreas sounds like she's underwater drowning and someone is shaking her at the same time...enough with the vibrato!!!
:c)

Posted: 9/30/03 at 12:26pmsee, and that is why I was thrilled that they made the Encores version of SP. I adore Rachel York...so I prefer her singing over Christine's.

Posted: 9/30/03 at 12:27pmI agree with you, I like the recording of Urinetown and can't stand listening to Pimpernel but for a different reason. For me it's Linda Eder sounding like Barbra Striesand doing a bad French accent that makes it intolerable.

Posted: 9/30/03 at 12:31pmLinda isn;t on the show's CD. On the first one, its Christine...and then on Encore's, its Rachel and Christine.

Posted: 9/30/03 at 12:37pmI've never heard the Encores recording, maybe I would like it better. The version I have is the Linda Eder one.

Actually~
Linda Eder is on the Concept Album. And she does not sing it in a french voice.
Hope to clear it all up.

I love the OCR of Urinetown, although I wish they would re-record it with Carolee Carmello's Pennywise (much as I love Nancy Opel--no offense to her)!
I agree that Christine Andreas' voice is an acquired taste.

Posted: 9/30/03 at 1:52pmI LOVE the Urinetown album. One of the only musical moments ever to give me chills happens during "Follow Your Heart" right after Hope is saying "There it is. So faint...it's saying...*(the moment)...Follow, into the open air." It kills me.

Well thanks guys...I appreciate the feedback :c)
I just have a thing about people using vibrato...I like a nice, strong clear voice. Something that can punch a hole through a wall :c)

Don't know about the recodring of "Urinetown"...but I'm seeing the show in Philly on Nov. 18th. It's getting "good as Bd'w" reviews everywhere!
RE: Christine Andreas, yep her vibrato is a bit "unique" BUT this gal is an amasingly talented lady with a great amount of stage presence. She's up for a Barrymore Award for "Pal Joey" at the Prince theater this past season. Just as nice as talented too. I too loved Rachel York in SP, but I'm partial to Andreas' Marguertte, so sassy and French. Besides that fact that the rapport with Sills, Andreas and Mann was never topped. imho.
"Storybook" is the one song I don't care for from Linda Eder. She can't pull it off as well as the others. again , just me.
Off to cover Saigon tonight at the Merriam! (also heard this is a keeper).

Posted: 9/30/03 at 4:39pmI love the Urinetown OBC CD as well, but agree that Carolee is pretty wonderful in the show. But I love the CD because it has Hunter and Jennifer on it....their voices fit together so perfectly.....it's amazing.

I agree, I would have liked Carolee to be on the recording, but Nancy is good. As long as there is Hunter Foster and Jeff McCarthy I'm happy :)
The recording is nothing in comparison to the actual show in Urinetown's case, but the recording is fun and worth listening to every once in a while.

Thoroughly dislike URINETOWN. Why subject others to it?
Yours for a better Broadway!
