As a young musician studying in NYC during the 1950s, I was given a free ticket to see PETER PAN with Mary Martin. To be quite frank, I was not overly impressed with Martin--who was too cute--or with Ritchard--who was totally over the top. But I do remember Kathleen Norris as being so fresh, vital and beautiful in the part of Wendy. There was a moment which I will never forget. It's when Martin sings NEVERLAND, and Nolan just sat still, hands folded and looked at her with such mystery and wonder that it really touched your heart.
Does anyone know what became of her. I know she appeared in television and was the first woman president of SAG.
I wish you could have seen her on the stage. And what a pity that she did not continue.

I remember that very well, as it was the first Broadway show I ever saw. As I recall, Kathleen Nolan was in a daytime television show at the same time -- may the one with Brandon de Wilde called Jaime (or something like that).

What a wonderful, evocative story, Philly! Thanks for that.

She played Nellie Forbush opposite Jereome Hines' Emile de Beque in the Jones Beach production of SOUTH PACIFIC many years ago. She was splendid.

I don't really remember her as I found it impossible to keep my eyes off Mary Martin. For me she simply commanded the stage every second she was on.
Am I the only confused one here?
Is it Norris Or Nolan?

I, too, saw the Jones Beach production of SOUTH PACIFIC in 1969, I think. I was a teenager and remember it vividly! Jerome Hines, Kathleen Nolan and Barney Martin as Luther Billis. The cast was great but what was amazing was the use of the water! When Cable went to Bali Hai, he WENT to Bali Hai, in a boat, to an upstage island!
Other shows I saw there were CAROUSEL with John Cullum and Bonnie Franklin and THE KING AND I with Constance Towers. They were produced by Guy Lombardo, the bandleader who, at the time, was synonymous with New Years Eve. After the show, the audience went to a huge tent where his band would play and you could dance for a couple of hours. And this was included in the price of admission. Those were the days!
