A galaxy of N.Y. cabaret stars will perform and sing the praises of a beloved, late entertainment critic at ''Daydream: A Tribute to the Life of John Hoglund'' on Friday, Sept. 27, at 9:30 p.m. at Pangea NYC, 178 Second Ave. in the East Village. Celebrated singers Marcus Simeone and Sue Matsuki will host the special celebration with Tracy Stark as the musical director. The lineup of award-winning artists will include Karen Akers, Tom Andersen, Maria Gentile, Lina Koutrakos, Jose Luis, Karen Mack, Sidney Myer, Ricky Ritzel, Marta Sanders, Jill Wilson Cohen (and some surprises).

For over 30 years, Hoglund covered cabaret, jazz and theater: writing the ''Bistro Bits'' column for Backstage, plus BroadwayWorld.com, After Dark, Private Lives, the Village Voice, the Native, Cabaret Scenes, NiteLife Exchange, TheatreScene.Net, etc. Hoglund, who passed away earlier this year, was known especially for championing young and upcoming talents. Besides being a wonderful writer, he served for 12 years on the board of directors of the Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs. (On a personal note, I'd add John was a great friend and a class act.)

Hoglund also produced among the first cabaret benefits for Broadway Cares and God's Love We Deliver. The starriest fund-raiser he ever produced was probably ''HeartSong: The Heroes Concert'' for the 9/11 Twin Tower Fund at the legendary Bottom Line. Its lineup boasted Liza Minnelli, Ann Hampton Callaway and Liz Callaway, Linda Eder, Bea Arthur, Judy Kaye, Norm Lewis, Karen Mason, Stephen Schwartz, Lillias White, etc.

Tickets to ''Daydream: A Tribute to the Life of John Hoglund'' are $25. If there are any still available at the door on the night of the show, they will be $30 (cash only). There's a $20 food-drink minimum, and the house opens at 6 p.m. for dinner. For more info: PangeaNYC.com or call (212) 995-0900.
