Hello from Milwaukee!
I just posted some wonderful photos of Karen Morrow and Jo Anne Worley on my website, "Memories of Melody Top." Check out the link in this message. The pics of Karen Morrow are in the gallery near the bottom of the page, and the one of Jo Anne Worley is on the "about me" page. Enjoy the summer...and these memories of summer stock theatre!
Memories of Melody Top
So fun! I love Karen Morrow! Thanks for sharing the Melody Top archive with us.
You're welcome! Thank you to everyone who visits my site.
Here's a thought: If Jerry Herman would compose a musical version of "Arsenic and Old Lace," Karen and Jo Anne would be perfect for the leads. Give those two belters another Broadway show!
I have long hoped that somebody would write a great new musical comedy role for Jo Anne. I was thrilled when she was announced to join Drowsy Chaperone, as I imagined she would tear the joint down as Drowsy - but alas she was Mrs. Tottendale - and while she was game - it didn't really let her fly.

Great additions to the site! I also loved the excellent drawing of Gretchen Wyler as Mame on the "Submitted Stories" page. She was great in that show! As for getting Jo Anne and Karen back on Broadway--YES! Give the girls a break!
It's a shame that there aren't more places like Melody Top around any more to keep the old pros working at what they do best and give youngsters a chance to work.
How are the Tommy Tunes of tomorrow supposed to get a chance to become what they are going to become? (And, yes, he choreographed shows at Melody Top.)
Oops! I forgot to mention someone in my original message.
Ann Arvia, who is playing the Bird Woman in the Broadway production of MARY POPPINS, is also pictured on the Melody Top website. In one picture, she is wearing a pink can-can dress; in another picture, she is in a sailor costume with her legs crossed. Ann played several leads in Melody Top productions, and I will never forget her heartbreaking portrayal of Fran in PROMISES, PROMISES opposite Desi Arnaz, Jr. as Chuck Baxter.

I remember Ann Arvia and Desi Arnaz, Jr. fondly in PROMISES, PROMISES. I also remember hearing the very distinctive laugh of Desi, Sr. pealing out during the performance. I spotted him at intermission--very much the proud father. I was only in my teens when Tommy Tune was at Melody Top, but his choreography made a real impression. During her curtain speech for SWEET CHARITY, Gretchen Wyler said to remember his name because he was sure to make a mark in the theatre. He also performed some featured dance parts that season, most memorably in THE BOY FRIEND. A few years later, he returned to Melody Top and was a wonderfully creepy emcee in CABARET.
