Who has been keeping track? I read plans for MAME, A CHORUS LINE, TARZAN, THE WEDDING SINGER, THE ODD COUPLE, THE PARIS LETTER, JERRY SPRINGER, LENNON, Martin Short One-Man Show, BAREFOOT IN THE PARK, what else...?

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Are you talking only musicals, or plays and musicals? Just Broadway or Off-Broadway as well? Paris Letter is an Off-Broadway play, by the way. A Chorus Line is 2006 - 2007 season (San Francisco in the summer of 2006 and Broadway in the Fall). Jerry Springer is a HUGE question mark after its failure in London.

After the Night and the Music (Play -- Biltmore)
Lennon (Broadhurst)
Mambo Kings
Princesses
The Odd Couple (Revival)
Lestat
The Color Purple
Suzanne Summers
The Constant Wife (Roundabout)
Fool For Love (Roundabout)
Threepenny Opera (Roundabout)
Festen
The Opposite of Sex?
Sweeney Todd
The Woman In White
Mary Poppins?

I KNEW it.

At least with After the Night, Primo, Shining City and Festen, there are four new plays opening - which should certainly raise the tally on the new play front for the season... This year ('04-'05), we've had five new plays TOTAL.

If Princesses, Lennon, Woman in White, Jerry Springer, The Wedding Singer, Lestat, The Color Purple, The Opposite of Sex and Mary Poppins all open next year, it could be another great season for musicals. We might have two 1990's in a row (when all four of the musicals nominated were worthy of winning). And don't forget that Zanna, Don't is still trying to get on Broadway.

Paris Letter is Off Broadway for a limited run & is not a musical. Odd Couple & Barefoot are not musicals either
