I was at a private party last night for Keith David, who was celebrating winning an Emmy as narrator for "Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson" (PBS). He was at Juilliard a few yrs ahead of me, but I knew him from around the school. It turns out that another friend of mine Judd Jones (who was last on Bway in "My One and Only") taught Keith at High School for the Performing Arts. It was Judd who asked me to go as his guest.
Well, I can't tell you what a delight it was to see Keith & congratulate him. It was like old home week. There were no big wigs fr Hollywood or Broadway, just family & friends who were all warm and welcoming. And Keith was a regular Joe who made everyone feel wonderful. In my eyes, it's a very special person and performer who can do that.
We'll see him on stage(s) in NYC in '07.
