Kelsey Grammer in The Producers?

Eeek.
Big Name... Good Voice... Macbeth! (Things to consider) He could be good for it. They'll need someone to continue the buzz in about 9 weeks right?

Do you think they'll talk to David Hyde Pierce to play his Bloom?

PS- I'm an understudy now... so when Phantom2 is sick, I go on.

I always thought he should be in Cam Mac's new My Fair Lady if they transferred it to Broadway.

A Henry Higgins with a singing voice. That could be fun. I'm so used to the movie.

I remember in High School, I was talking about show selection with the directors, and when 'My Fair Lady' came up, they said that "it would only work with a strong female lead". I tried to correct, and said "strong female and strong male". I was corrected back... "No... Higgins doesn't have to be a singer". That's the kind of rut that you can get stuck in if you're not careful.

I think this is dream casting, especially with David Hyde Pierce, but wouldn't that cause major ticket problems like with Nathan and Matthew? Certainly in England I'd say Kelsley and David are more famous.

No, I would've liked to have seen Taboo. I feel sorry for all the people who will be out of work. Even when I don't like a show, I'm not particularly happy to see it close.

That seems like a distinct possibility tkts, based on the article.

I thought that Brad Oscar would go back to headlining the tour after the special engagement.

I think it would've been great to have him back in the original Liebkind role for the short run.

Kelsey may be inspired. The show needs someone who'll fit, but also bring his own fresh comic stamp. I think the show has done all the Lane Cloning it can afford, which is why Oscar might not be so welcome, good as he is. Brantley basically said NO ONE can replace these two after the 2nd engagement. (Thanks, Ben--but what about Donna Murphy? "A super ... something walks among us!") Kelsey can sing, and does have the size to play it. It may be less broad, but surely the jokes would land.

Really, what a box office bonanza that would be. Hyde-Pierce was a stage actor before, too. (Heidi Chronicles, etc.) Stunt casting that might actually work.

I also continue to vote for Megan M. to replace Kristin. Though I doubt SHE can keep a straight face during "Popular" either, dropped mirror or dropped line.

Saw Hyde-Pierce in a musical workshop in September. He can sing as well.

Dollyop - I like Hugh, but considering the part, someone would have to teach him to get through his lines with stumbling and stuttering.

Let me work with Hugh Grant for a ffew weeks and his stuttering will be a thing of the past.

I'd also correct the grammatical error that Higgins makes in his first 10 minutes on stage: "By rights she should be taken out and hung..." Let me correct the "expert dialectician and grammarian", pictures are HUNG, people are HANGED.

My correction would be: "By rights her neck should thoroughly be rung...for the cold blooded murder of the English tongue"

If you've seen any photos of Hugh Grant lately, you'll notice that his floppy hair has been gone for some time and he's having a good barber style his locks. Actually, Mr. Grant has never looked better!

well, judging from the "Producers" tour I just saw tonight... they'd better find a pair that can pull it off better than this Max & Leo. They can't be the best Broadway has to offer! Review to come. Not sure what I think of Kelsey Grammer in the role, just yet. Better get the star stunt-casting list out again!

Actually I saw Kelsey Grammer in MACBETH and he wasn't all that bad--really. The problems is that the production was done on the cheap and was under-rehearsed. Grammer has a marvelous speaking voice and his soliloquies were beautifully spoken. It's just that he has a belly (which good costuming on FRASIER hides for the most part) and in MACBETH he was put in black pants and black t-shirts; something which made the tummy very obvious.

The staging was uninspired and the rest of the cast was lackluster. It was obvious that the entire production was put together in about two weeks.
