I was kind of upset withe the announcement of the 2007/2008 season for the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. The only broadway shows coming are The Lion King and My Fair Lady. I was hoping and had heard that the Kennedy Center was going to get both Jersey Boys and The Color Purple during this season but it doesn't look like it is going to happen. I don't understand why Washington D.C. (being the nation's capitol city) does not have a Broadway Across America series and how D.C. cannot get The Wedding Singer, The Color Purple, Sweeny Todd, or Jersey Boys.
Also, has anyone heard what the Hippodrome in Baltimore MD is getting in the 2007/2008 season? I am hoping that since Washington D.C. isn't getting some of the shows I want, that Baltimore will get them instead.
Makes me feel sorry for the nation's capitol. Even those of us close to Louisville, KY get to see "Sweeney Todd."

Here is a thread about the rumored schedule of the Hippodrome in 07/08:

The schedule will be announced in 2 weeks.
The Kennedy Center season is clearly not that great, but in their defense (and I rarely defend them), the Eisenhower Theatre is going to be closed for renovations of some sort.
At National, I believe we are getting the Bee, Avenue Q, and Spamalot.
But even more so, I would urge everyone to take advantage of the amazing regional houses in the DC area, many of which use Broadway talent or premiere new works. Signature, Woolly Mammoth are among my favorites. Also there is Studio (which is considering some pretty good plays for next season per a subscriber email) and Arena- not to mention Folger and the Shakespeare Theatre Company and Fords Theatre.
We don't get the newest national tours in some cases, which is a shame for those that can't see the originals in NY, but we do have some great regional theatre.
I wish National would have chosen something other than Spamalot. They just had it this past summer. You'd think they would want something newer, especially since there are a lot more current shows with tours that I would think would be more popular.

The Kennedy Center is overpriced and overrated as a venue. The National's lineup is far more appealing, and I'm sure that the Warner will have all the Non-Eq's of choice again. Hopefully the Hippodrome can follow up this year with one of equal quality.
Ouch. I thought DC was supposed to be a theatre town.
It is a theatre town. Regional theatre is very strong. I don't equate many national tours indicating a place is a theatre town.
Fair enough. There are towns (cities) that have plenty of national tours and regional theatre though. That’s what I was thinking of, not just national tours alone.
