After playing Bobby Darin a full decade older than Darin was when he died, the forever-boyish Spacey is now doing Philadelphia Story? I'm all for fighting ageism, but isn't it time to gracefully face middle age, Kevin?
"I'm a comedian, but in my spare time, things bother me." Garry Shandling
His performance as Bobby Darin was one of the most staggeringly self indulgent disasters committed to celluloid in recent memory. Here's hoping Philadelphia Story is better.
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.
I've seen "The Philadelphia Story" movie and the "High Society" remake and never thought of the actors as playing young people. Tracy had been married and divorced already to Dex and none of the performances were age specific. Except that annoying little sister character, who I read was just as annoying in the High Society musical with Randy Graff.
I never saw the Bobby Darin movie, but I do enjoy Kevin Spacey as an actor. I think he could pull off the Dex character. He's not planning on playing the Jimmy Stewart reporter character, is he?
"My dreams, watching me said, one to the other...this life has let us down."
If any other actor had made "Beyond the Sea," oscar nom's would have abounded. But because everyone already knows Kevin Spacey is probably one of the most talented actors around, and because he's already proved it, people shrugged the movie off.
Kevin Spacey is a great actor, enough said, and I'm sure that he could do at 80 what most of us could never do in the prime of life. And he's a ways off from 80.
