It played at the Victoria Palace, the production having originated at the Martin Beck theaatre in New York, starring Tony winners Brian Stokes Mitchell and the amazing Marin Mazzie. Mazzie originated the role also in the London production, playing alongside Brent Barrett. Rachel York took over from Marin Mazzie during the run and played Kate when the show was filmed for the video/dvd.
I am a fan of Rachel York. She stole the show in Victor Victoria when I saw it on Broadway; she was very good in The Scarlet Pimpernel; and was absolutely superb in Dessa Rose at the Lincoln Center. But I have to say that her performance in Kiss Me, Kate did not even come close to Marin Mazzie's.
