Watching it now...
I never knew this was filmed in 3D. I've only watched it in 2D.
Maybe this is a silly question, but have there been other 3D movie musicals?
Have any of you seen this in 3D?

It was filmed in 3-D but only ever released flat. I believe that back in the 1980s the 3-D versionw as shown in L.A. as part of a festival of 3-D films. The others were all horror films. KMK was the ONLY musical ever filmed in 3-D.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
Interesting! Thanks for the info.
I've seen the film several times before but I never noticed how they blocked the film for 3D. Fred throwing a banana toward the camera makes sense now. Cheap 3 D thrills.
Damn I missed it. By the way, why in the hell would Kiss Me Kate (Out of all the shows out there) be in 3D?

I believe it was filmed back in the day of the 3D craze, which had since ended by the time it was released..

I have no depth perception so this is second hand, but the Film Forum in NY showed Kate a few years ago in 3-D, and the audience would oooohhh and aaahhh when something went at the camera. A few times they visibly flinched.
On the other hand I admired the shape of Howard Keel's behind in those tights. My, my. You don't need 3-D for such a fine manly shape as that.
