Known comings and goings at Hairspray

I posted this in another thread, but I figuered I could start a new thread with it and add a few more::


Corey and Linda give their final performances on July 13. Chester Gregory and Barbara Walsh start on July 15. Harvey and Marissa both leave sometime in August. Matthew is supposed to be leaving at the end of August or in September. D1ck Latessaleaves in September. Danielle Eugenie Wilson is leaving but I am not sure exactly when. Mary Bond Davis has signed on for another year. No word either way on Kerry, Jackie, or Joel.

Jenn Gambatese returns as Brenda, with Alli Mauzey leaving to play Brenda on tour. John Hill leaves at the end of July, with John Jeffrey Martin coming in to play Fender. Sabrina Scherff is leaving to play a Dynamite on tour.

Kathy Brier is rumored to be replacing Marissa as Tracy.

Laura Bell Bundy is going to be filming a movie. Not sure if it will be a vactaion-type departure or a permanent one.

Could just be a rumor but I've read here and there that Harvey has extended and will be staying past his contract.

He has said the he and Marissa will be leaving to work on their sitcoms, but both plan on returning. If he is staying, that must be a new development.

Why do these people always go to California and do sitcoms? I know the money is there, and I could understand it if they were to do great movie projects, but inevitably they rush into some lame sitcom that has been put together too quickly that bombs after a few episodes. They return to NY sign on for a half baked show which opens and closes while their original show continues with (sometimes) lesser performers.

Exactly. I know plenty of actors who love theatre and want to stay there, but they do film and television work because that is where the money is... it pays the bills so that they CAN work in live theatre.

Kamilah Martin is leaving to go on tour with Bette Midler...
I don't know if Harvey is leaving...they want to work around his tv schedule. Sabrina already left and they have 2 new female swings.

Who are the new swings?? And what hew swings have they added? I know there is now one named Willis....leaving me with the incredible urge to say the obvious line. lol.

I love hairspray and I love Marisa, but I don't think she will be great in a sitcom. I just think it is the setting of Hairspray that make Marisa seem so good. But I do wish her and everyone else in the cast the best of luck. Hairspray won't be the same without them!

Josh Bergasse Is leaving so they replaced him with a guy named michael who's his younger clone. Willis is hot:) The 2 new female swings are in for sabrina and denosh ..they are swings for the dynamites. Michelle Kitrell is a vacation swing for the corny girls.

OK, Marissa has said that Kathy brier is replacing her.
Tracy Jai Edwards replaces Laura Bell Bundy when she bows out on July 13.

Kerry may leave to do Little Shop, so her last day, if she leaves, would probably be July 13.

Matt Morrison has extended for 6 months.

Willis White is the African-American male swing (they needed one)
I believe Michelle Kittrell has been doing time at Hairspray on and off lately.

broadwayguy- you truly are a Broadway legend. Enough said.
But on the Hairspray topic- Please God, don't let Kerry leave on JUly 13th. Please, please, please!!! Thank God Matt Morrison has extended. John Jeffrey Martin looks like a great addition to the cast, as well.

yeah, it is good to see Matt stay, but who knows. With the exposure he has gotten, he may end up being offered something and leave before January 11 (his scheduled last day). Stuff like that does happen.


Again, IF Kerry leaves, I hope they bring back Alli or move up Brooke. Shoot, even moving up Sandra DeNise (tour Penny) would be great since they have brought in so many tour folk!

She was originally cast to play Penny on tour, then they asked her to play Brenda on Broadwy for a few months before the tour, then asked her to stay with the Broadway cast, then Jenn Gambatese decided to come back so they asked Alli to go back to the tour, but Sandra DeNise had already been cast to replace her as Penny so they signed her tour as Brenda. Poor girl, that is just sooo cmplicated isn't it? Confusinga s all hell.

Alli wont be Penny..if anyone was to take over penny it would probably be Jenn Gambetese or Brooke Tansley..the most they would do is ask Alli to stay on as Brenda again in NYC..but it might be too late since she's already signed the tour contracts and will be starting rehersals in about a week or so. And to be quite honest i'd LOVE to see alli's penny!!!!! Cause she really does look like Kerry..one day after the show, alli came down to buy merch in her safari hat.. and Katy Grenfell walked by and goes "hi kerry!" and she turned around and katy was like "wooo youre not kerry youre alli" it was cute. Amneris- how is Brooke? I hope she's good for Penny- but Jen Gambatese doesnt belt, does she? She didnt on the Fame CD. Penny is a belting role!

Brooke is the next best thing to Kerry...yes sometimes she would try to BE kerry but she was excellent in the part... she sounds just like her... I didnt care much for Hollie Howard's penny but i KNOW she's going to make a fantastic AMBER cover when she DOES get to go on sometime in this life... Well, I saw Jenn in FOOTLOOSE and she belted in that show..she played the 2nd Urleen. She has an excellent (young girls) voice..which is needed for the part.

Okay...what can you do? I'm upset I won't get to see Kerry, but I love Jen Gambatese, and I'm glad she belts, and I'm glad Brooke is good in the role.

i could be all wrong though...they might have someone already lined up whos new for penny...they did have many auditions this year and after all it was slated earlier there was a slight chance kerry would leave to do her fox pilot. I know they have a new Amber who has brown hair...
