Word on the street is, the producers have approached Sarah Jessica Parker.
Now, that's a laugh.

That's what's known as a bad word.

What part of that is the laugh?
The fact that she would never do it?
or the fact that you think she couldn't handle it?
She is a name. She would actually sell more tickets than Jane Krakowski. She is a delightful stage actress, and she can sing pretty well and dance well. Technically, she may not have the exact same chops as Jane K, however, she isn't THAT far off the mark, in fact, I think she is a better actress.
I am hoping by "That's a laugh" you mean she wouldn't do it.

Maybe that's why they booked the Helen Hayes...so they could use what they save in rent for a star name.
The question is...would SJP be willing to share one of the THREE dressing rooms?

Posted: 2/13/07 at 3:02pmThis just seems like a bad idea all together. Love the movie, but in that theatre, on that stage, with that few seats. Doesn't seem possible to profit, even selling out each night. And I doubt SJP would sell out Xanadu. I don't think anyone could, sans a big pop name

No offense to Jane K, but she is not a killer singer either...
I actually like Jane Krakwoski, but her vocals in NINE couldn't begin to compare to Anita Morris'.
SJP sings ok...not, great...
And I can't imagine she couldn't roller skate...she is very much of the era when everyone was roller skating. She is also a trained dancer.
Again, not assuming she's gonna do it...but I don't get the SJP slam. She is very talented and absolutely would sell more tickets than Jane Krakowski. Sorry, I need to say that.

Posted: 2/13/07 at 3:11pmKiller singer or not, Krakowski could sing SJP under the table. For the record, I love SJP, just not when she's singing, ugh.

eve, my "that's a laugh" comment was directed at the face that she'd never do it.
I would love to see her in it, but I think she's far too smart to sign on to the project.
#14re: Krakowski replacement in XANADU
Posted: 2/13/07 at 3:14pmI love Krakowski but I had no interest in seeing Xanadu if she was going to do it. If SJP does it, I will be very interesting. I don't think it's such a bad idea.

It's gotta be someone big if they're moving forward with it.
I wouldn't be the least bit surprised.

Madeinthe80s, I was hoping the "that's a laugh" comment was because she probably wont do it, not because she wouldn't be fun!
As for her singing...really, I have heard her a few times, and no, not great..but, in the right role catered to her limited vocal abilities, I would LOVE to see SJP in a musical that suited her. I just like her. She has that THING, and certainly falls into a category of STAR that has business being on stage AND even in a musical.

Come on, how can you all say that her pop vocal success in Hocus Pocus is not enough to convince you that the woman can blow the roof off?

Does the role require being about to act in scenes?
Andrea may not be in the running then...

This entire project strikes as something that -- if you're going to go to all the trouble of staging it at all -- should be a cheap series of goofy little concert performances for charity or something, a la Broadway Bares or the Easter Bonnet competition. Get some big names, stick it in Roseland for four or five performaces, raise a few million for BC/EFA and then put it to sleep.
It's a dumb show based on terrible cheesy campy little cult movie with limited widespread appeal and I just don't see this as having the legs or financial prospects to be a profitable open-ended running Broadway musical for $110 a ticket at the Helen Hayes. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't get spending $5 million on the sort of silly little show that Tweed and other downtown groups used to put together based on camp classics like Auntie Mame, Valley of the Dolls, The Bad Seed, The Children's Hour, Imitation of Life et al starring folks like Charles Busch, Jackie Hoffman, Lypsinka, Varla Jean Merman, Julie Halston et al (even Lily Tomlin showed up for one of them) for little cost (and a reasonable ticket price) for a handful of performances. Are there really tens of thousands of people (which is how many they will need to attract if the show is to recoup) out there willing to spend Broadway prices for a campy disco rollerskating spoof?
I wish them luck, but I don't get it.

The only way I see SJP working well in this is if they cut her singing, and redesign the role to be for a horsefaced trollop.
Edit: Ok, harsh I know...but I really dislike the woman.
