I was watching the videos on Broadway.com and on the Broadway Festival, a salute to group leaders presented by Theatre Direct International and Broadway.com one there was someone who I assume was Krist Cates singing the Wizard and I but she was wearing the Act 2 dress. Her singing was good but very classical and not what I would have expected for Elphaba.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I was there for it...
She was good and everyone there loved her. I thought she did a decent job but I have seen better. Then again, she didn't have a whole lot of stage time before the Broadway Festival performance.

What exactly is Broadway Festival? I assume it's held in New York to benefit a charity and to promote all shows on Broadway?

Broadway.com puts it on.

Terra MacLeod sounds wonderful in it, too.

Wow, they all sounded wonderful! Eden singing for Brooklyn was great!

It was a festival by Broadway.com at the Town Hall, mainly for tour guides and people who bring large groups to NYC and see shows. There were 12 shows that performed, each did at least one song. I posted a review after I went, here's a link:

This is just my opinion, but am I the only one who didn't like that clip of her? She looks gorgeous in makeup and costume, but it sounded like she cracked at that note, then overcompensated by taking that HUGE breath which led her vibrato to go nuts. Hrmmm...

I completely agree. And she seems wayyyyyyyyy too classical sounding. I can't really judge though--I'd have to see more.

She sounded ok, but a little too classical singing style for that role in my opinion. But maybe she can belt the heck out of those songs, I don't know, haven't seen or heard her.

It is sort of an awkward place in the song to use as a clip, I would have thought they would have taped the end instead. However, I've been lucky enough to see Kristy perform the role and this clip doesn't even do justice to how talented she really is. So, don't judge Kristy's Elphaba on this 30 seconds. She gave me chills the entire second act and that was the first time she'd ever gone on. I'd love to see her perform it now that she's been in Toronto and has had time to really get comfortable in the role.
