Yesterday some friends and I celebrated the 41st aniiversary of HELLO, DOLLY! by attending another Jerry Herman show--LA CAGE AUX FOLLES. It's an excellent production! The two leads are marvelous and Daniel Davis has a fine singing voice--much better than Gene Barry in the original. We found Gary Beach to be exceptional as Albin and his rendition of "I Am What I Am" brought tears to our eyes. The whole cast was fine and we were greatly impressed by Gavin Creel's singing voice, but did he need that ponytail hairdo? The sets and costumes are all top notch. Those of us in our group claimed it was the most satisying experience we've had in the theater in quite some time.
Good news: It seems as thought LA CAGE is finding its audience. Yesterday's performance was sold-out and it hasn't been at the TKTS booth in a few days.
BTW: we sat three rows behind Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft, who enjoyed the show as much as we did!
Jerry Herman rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it. I had the same reaction.

I had the same reaction as you too!
My mom said afterwards that Gavin's "Look Over There" also brought tears to her eyes. I just love it when theatre moves you so much.
And I'm so glad it's doing well box office-wise. Believe me, if I could get up to New York I'd be seeing it over and over again.
Now all we need is a cast album!!

I loved this production and I'm glad it's doing well at the box office. And I agree with Producersfan, we need a cast recording!
Yup. I loved it. (My dad is the biggest fan of 'The Birdcage' movie, so when we visited most recently, he just HAD to see La Cage. Michael Benjamin Washington cracked me up.)
I loved it and really enjoyed the Cagelle's and Andy Pellick, the dancer who does the fanatastic cage dance.(Bird)
Leave Gavin alone about his hair. He is growing it long for his new CD.
Let the man be who he is. He is a wonderful performer and an incredible person. If you mess with Gavin, you will have to mess with me.
Pony OR NOT HE IS TALENTED. Let it rest.
I wish Gavin had more songs. He has a gorgeous voice and an even better personality. If only there were more people like Gavin in this business. Then life would be grand.

I may agree with the spirit of your post Corinne - but HE'S GROWING IT FOR A CD? HUH?
Gavin is a very gracious person.
Mamie. If you listened to his interview on Seth's chatterbox he is growing it long because he wants to do a rock cd.
Hey. If that is what makes him happy then people should embrace his new hairstyle.
I loved his hair short in Millie. He looked incredibly sexy, but this makes him happy.
So on that note everyone shut up about his hair.
Let it fly in the breeze. Make a home for the buzzin bees.
Twisted, beaded braided whatever.
Leave Gavin alone. Enough said.

I'm tired of embracing hairstyles. I embraced a mohawk once and almost put my eye out. Is Gavin sort of like Sampson? He can't do a rock cd unless he has long Rapunzel tresses?
Namo-
I would love to see you in Tracy Turnblad's dress with the feather boa. Do me proud. Shaiman offered you a dream role.
Kick ass MACHO MAN.
#1 - It's spelled Andy Pellick.
#2 - Gavin has BIG, SEXY HAIR!
Corrected. Thanks. All I care about is that he has a big, talented voice and he is a very nice person.
Who cares about his HAIR. How silly!
A very nice person indeed!
La Cage is great? La Cage is large in size? Don't you mean La Cage is wonderful/fabulous/fantastic/outstanding? Geez, aren't you an English teacher and shouldn't you know better? Who'd you sleep with to get your degree?

I slept with your husband before he met you!
I used "great" as in:
"You'll be swell
You'll be great
Gonna have Albin's head on a plate!"
I asure you, my husband is a one-man man. Besides, he doesn't sleep with skanks.
