James Kirkwood's fabled LEGENDS, which toured twenty years ago with Carol Channing and Mary Martin (and Gary Beach) without ever playing NY and was the subject of Kirkwood's memoir "Diary of a Mad Playwright", is being revived with Joan Collins and Linda Evans in the lead roles! What larks, Pip!
There's a male stripper in it. That should catch peoples' attention.

This is not a good play (I saw it in Philly), and with the author now on "permanent tour" as it were, he is not available for more rewrites.
Let sleeping dogs lie.
With the accent on the word 'dogs'.
there is another thread about this, which is in discussion of the "lead story" posted today.........
LEGENDS is a pretty bad play. As I wrote on the other thread, it was a delight seeing Channing and Martin do the brief musical number that was added for them. Other then that, LEGENDS will be a nice place to visit for folks who want to see the former DYNASTY stars live and in person. The show is fun sometimes, but it will not knock your socks off or even make them roll up and down.
Having seen the original, I can tell you this play is HORRID. BAD. STUPID.
There is a good reason why the Channing/Martin version never went further than SF..exclsuding the made up excuses.
Checkov had better have done a re-write or this thing will still suck.
What a terrible idea. The play is awful. The book by Kirkwood (Diary of a Mad Playwright) is one of the best books about the theatre experience ever written. But the play is horrible. I would rather see a revival of Time Out For Ginger, for crying out loud.

I read the play and thought it was dreadful. The "revised" second act is really worse than the original one. (Both versions are included in the reading edition.) This new production is probably one of the worst ideas that have popped up in recent years.
Yes, the play is awful!!
Loved his book though!
But people love watching car accidents.
What next?
"Agnes of God" with the original television cast of "Charlie's Angels?"

Linda Evans will never be able to recapture the magic she displayed in "The Gambler IV" on TV. Is there a role for Kenny Rogers in Legends? They had magic...haha
The book 'Diary of a Mad Playwright' is a good read. I once read it in one sitting travelling over the Pacific Ocean. Updated On: 2/25/05 at 10:27 PM
