LESTAT the MUSICAL, please lock up Elton so this won't happen!

When I heard the news I was dumfounded my all time favorite homoerotic story of The Vampire Lestat. HOW can they destroy it by making it a musicsl? Please does anyone know any info on this. Is anyone as shocked and appauled as I am! This is a very sad day for me.

How do you KNOW they're going to destroy it? Why don't you wait, see it, then get upset?

Well, I remember in an interviews, Brooks said that the book is too long to make into a musical. I'm glad he only used Volume I - with J.T.. I didn't like Volume II - where Winston gets another chance to write an Opera - and he chooses homeless people. Although, the second volume has a hilarious line. Winston comes down and sees a group of homeless people harmonizing together and he says, "Only in Brooklyn do the homeless sing and people throw money at them!"

Well, I guess it isn't funyn out of context... re: LESTAT the MUSICAL, please lock up Elton so this won't happen!

I'm sure people originally thought that Victor Hugo's book would be destroyed as well but it seemed that that turned out okay.

i'm upset about this without seeing it because of it's Musical Theatre format, I agree it could take an interesting take on the source materical, but I hope and since Elton's involved they do not remove the homoerotic subtext "Interview of The Vampire" movie did due to Tom Cruise personally asked for it to be removed. But anyone have any more information about this? If its about Lestat then I can't see much more than the second book of the Vampire Chronicles "The Vampire Lestat") would be in the play. Also, lets not forget the musical to Stephen King's "Carrie"

Are they adapting all 3 of the first novels into the musical? I wasn't aware of that.

According to the synopsis in the new program, it's pretty much just the first two novels, "Interview With The Vampire" and "The Vampire Lestat." Not much seems to be drawn from "Queen of The Damned." Which suits me just fine as I never liked the last one very much.

i am a BIG Anne Rice fan, ajay, and im kind of excited for this. One thing I like already is that its called Lestat- keeping the author's intention of having Lestat be the protagonist, even through Interview. which already separates it from the movie. it should be interesting. I think elton and the book writers and so forth should be able to keep a sound balance between the original feel of the books and what is appropriate to reach a broad audience. if we have Rocky Horror Show, why cant we have this? right? Also, if youre worried about how the music is going to sound, I believe a couple of the songs are out and about. do a thread search im sure theres a link to a couple of them in here somewhere. i dunno, im hoping its good, trying to go in with a positive attitude, not expect too much and all that. it will be what it will be.
you may know what you need but to get what you want better see that you keep what you have

I think that she would say she hated it if she did, yes. She completely detatched herself from the IWTV movie after losing the battle to have someone other than Tom Cruise cast as Lestat, and then had to eat her words after seeing how wonderful he was in the movie. So I don't think that she's going to be supportive of something that she thinks is doing injustice to her work.

Exactly. I remember her being VERY annoyed at the casting of Tom Cruise in Interview. I also remember the open letter of apology she wrote after seeing the finished movie.
