This is a revival that I just can not wait to see.I have never seen the show, but loved the original movie (in French) and just laughed myself silly w/ the Willams & Lane remake. When do previews start?

If Kelsey Grammer is cast in the show, it is in the role of Georges. Gary Beach was hired months ago to play Albin--And he is going to be fabulous! Lee Roy Reams would have been a great choice as well... I hope to see him in a tour or as a replacement (maybe even standby?) on Broadway... That would be wonderful! Anyway... Kelsey was going around claiming he would be playing Albin, though the role was already cast! I don't know who I would want to play Georges... but can someone send Gavin Creel in to play Jean-Michel?
As far as anyone thinking this show is a bad idea... don't put negative thoughts into people's heads. La Cage is a beautiful show (one of Jerry Herman's best scores) and was very well recieved in its original run)! It beat out SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE (Another beautiful show) for the big awards that year!

Posted: 6/24/04 at 4:28amThe fact that "Sunday In The Park With George" lost the Tony to "La Cage" says far more about the validity of and politics surrounding the Tony Awards and the judgment of those who select them (none of it good) than the actual quality or merits of either show.

Bravo, MargoChanning...
The fact that Jerry Herman's score and Harvey Fierstein's book for LA CAGE beat out Sondheim and Lapine's work for SUNDAY is one of the great travesties in Tony Award history.
redhotinnyc... no bubble bursting here. I just think that Douglas Sills SEEMS too young. He was born in 1960, so he could certainly have a son old enough to be married. However, I still think the role works better if the character is more seasoned and has had more life experience. Kelsey is a much better choice. Much more plausible.
I still think Kevin Kline and John Lithgow would be great choices.

Posted: 6/24/04 at 9:00amI'd like to see someone like Terrence Mann or Jeff McCarthy as Georges.

Terrence Mann??!??!
It's a better idea to cast an actor who can sing if you're doing a musical. Kelsey Grammer's pitch problems are NOTHING compared to Mann's.

Well DUH! Isn't this at least one of the reasons for every play and musical produced on Broadway?
