re: La Cage Being dragged to Broadway.

The Walter Kerr is a lovely house and 'Little Night' would sit there looking very gorge.

>>Quast has resisted entreaties to perform in the US before... not sure that a limited engagement would tempt him. We US folks can hope, I guess. <<

DOH!! I would LOVE to have him come over!
I wonder how the show is gonna be over there with John Barrowman takes over... The FIX take 2?

But right now the times are tough for new shows to find lovely homes... I spoke with a BIG producer about a production in the works and he told me the big issue is that: finding a theatre and they will have to wait to see which shows tumble and hence the house becomes available.
I once heard someone describe her (Ruthie Henshall) singing as sounding as though she's trying to swallow a whole meatball slightly larger than her windpipe. (The same person compared Michael Ball's singing to sounding as though he's sitting on a washing machine on spin cycle and Colm Wilkinson's to a man with a paralyzed lip trying to eat cottage cheese.) --- Schmerg_The_Impaler

More like 'La Cage Aux Pantomime'!
He'll be OK but they will make more money in his 4 months than they have since it opened.

How funny- only a short time ago, people were bewailing the fact that half of Broadway was dark. Now we're back to the "no theatre available" alternative. Hmm.

I managed to see La Cage for the second time this afternoon!

Two bad items to bring up first;

1 No air con in theatre temperatures must of soared to high 70s in the stalls.

2 No Phillip Quast, however beggars cannot be users and he had a very reasonable deputy in Robert Maskell.

Gripe over.

What can I tell you about this show that you do not know already? Roger Allam is fantastic, but not as good as Douglas Hodge, I do not think any of you will raise an eyebrow at that assertion by me. What else can I tell you, what you do not already know? oh yeah, did I mention it is one of the best musicals in London at the moment and for £15 this is a steal, forget witches defying gravity or a bus that changes colour in the outback, this is true raw musical theatre that the avid theatre patron should not miss!!!!! With such hot act on stage I am sure temperatures soared to at least a dehydrating 140s, with such a great show air conditioning is a must!!!

Get your arses down to the Playhouse now, this surely must export to that other great theatre district.

I can't see this making much of an impression on Broadway. In New York it will be a big ticket (price) show and I think in the present climate, particularly in the U.S. people want a bit more bang for their buck.
