I received this jolly message from the manager of marketing at Clear Channel just now:
re La Cage aux Folles revival -
Programs are in the works and should be available within the month. A revival CD is not in the plan at this time and is decided upon by the producers and cast.

OK - we all know the cast wants it done as much as MOST of us do. Anybody know who the best person is to contact there?

unnaceptable. Totally and completely unnaceptable. Nothing less then a cast recording will do.
I couldn't agree more.
By the way, if someone's going by the theatre tonight, they might let Gary and/or Daniel know. Obviously no one's bothered to tell them. (Doesn't surprise me.)
Clear Channel is notorious for doing anything that they think will draw a buck. If there's any chance the $ won't be there, they won't do it.
Utter bullshi*. The cast and creative team deserves better than this.
Not to knock Pacific Overtures, but they get an OCR and La Cage doesn't? Outrageous...
Agreed - theres talk on the TB board of a letter writing campaign to the producers which I have offered to head up. Anyone here interested?
Yes - I am. (I'm Miss Alma). Let me know who to send them to.
"Pacific Overtures" deserves a cast album, but so does "La Cage". I really hope that they make one. This is a wonderful revival.
Well there's a phone # and an address. we could all start calling and writing letters!
Oh come on. Boo. Hiss. I thought for sure this show would have a cast recording. They gave one to Brooklyn, too. This one deserves a cast recording if Brooklyn did. I just assumed for sure they would come out with a CD.
There NEEDS to be a revival cast recording. It's a wonderful score and it should be recorded with Gavin and Gary Beach's voice!
FYI -

Mamie, I sent you an email! Hope you reply so we can start this thing up!
DAMMIT- I WANT THIS RECORDING MADE
i'd even settle for a brooke shields styled one of the original cast (hearn)with davis and creel dropped in
I'm thinking it can't hurt to send letters and/or emails to PS Classics, DRG, Ghostlight, etc. expressing wishes for a cast album. These are just a few labels that come to mind that usually step up to the plate and record the shows that don't get a deal from major record labels because of the fear that they won't sell extraordinarily well. Email and let them know that there's a market for this incredible revival!
Until grosses pick up or if it is still here come tony nominations time, they won't make a cd of the revival. They want some assurance it stands a chance of making a few bucks. Sad but true
Then how can you explain the fact that programs like 'Brooklyn' got recorded?
When I was in the theatre one of the people selling the old CD told me that 'they' decided that this show appealed to a limited audience and that was the reason they decided not to make the CD. I can't help but feel that some more of this hard-handed conservative policing isn't playing its hand in this. They've done so much to place their brand on the arts* that it sometimes amazes me that this show got produced in the first place.
*Doubt this? Take a look at Frank Rich's column in the on-line NY Times.
