Posted: 4/14/10 at 12:23amI hope one is made as well, this production truly deserves it! And the OBC recording is not balanced well at all.

Posted: 4/14/10 at 1:44amthe obc has not stood the test of time between poor mixing and how damn quiet it is, its a pain in the ass to try to listen to it.

Posted: 4/14/10 at 4:54amThe sound levels on the OBC CD are extremely low. I don't know if this happened when it was mastered/transferred to compact disc or if the problem was already inherent when the recording was originally issued on 12" vinyl.

The OBC was the VERY first cast album issued on CD, the format was brand new then (1983).
At the time the standard procedure was to use the heavily compressed LP masters and release them on CD. Within a few years the 90db dynamic range of CD's was being exploited and later release and reissues took advantage of this.
LA CAGE has never been remastered, and it deserves to be. Since it was RCA's first all digital recording one can only imagine how much better it would sound IF Sony would go back to those original master tapes.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Posted: 4/14/10 at 5:56amThanks for the information frontrowcentre2. I had no idea it was the first cast album released on CD, I didn't own a CD player back in 1983. I purchased my first one in 1985. I only ever owned the OBC on 12" vinyl until about 2 years ago and I was disappointed with the quality.

I find the obc near impossible to listen to in the car - because of the volume levels - you get deafened when you switch back to radio.
I would love for a recording of Doug Hodge playing Albin.
