Posted: 11/4/06 at 4:18pmWhat is it about Michael John LaChiusa's music that turns people off from a lot of his shows as brilliant as they are. I only have his Wild Party but I heard a song from Marie Christine today and it sounded absolutely divine. Is it because his work is more like opera than musical theatre?

Posted: 11/4/06 at 5:12pmI think it's because his scores are not as accessible to people as traditional musical theater scores that are showtuney (for lack of a better word).

They're musically illogical, without appeal, and devoid of emotional payoff.
