Lake Zurich High School's The Wedding Singer

So, I went to my Alma Mater tonight to see The Wedding Singer, as this was my only chance to see the show, since the tour didn't stop anywhere near the city. Overall, not too bad. The George was definitely the standout. That kid was absolutely HILARIOUS. And the Holly was great too. But overall, I must say, most of those kids could not sing. The Julia was decent enough as a singer, but in my opinion the Holly was the only one who could carry a tune. And the Robbie was decent enough. Not the best singer, but his acting made up for it.

Based off of this show I can say with certainty that they do NOT have the vocal talent to pull off Sweeney Todd in the Spring. I have no idea what Mr. Ron Culver was smoking when he chose to do Sweeney...

lol! That's kind of disappointing. I'm sure we wouldn't be alone in thinking that when certain people left the music/theater department the quality of talent dropped a little bit...even when ppl older than us graduated...but anyways. I've not been back there basically since we graduated, except for GK's football games, so I have no idea lol. I really wanted to see this but there's no day this weekend I could have come home :/

While your assessment of the level of talent is fair in this particular play I think the kids pulled it off in the end. They took the play to state in January and received standing ovations. Four of arguably the most talented kids in the school were not in the cast but are leads in Sweeney Todd. One was the lead in the all-state cast of Hairspray, the other was in the pit playing guitar and the other two were tied up with other commitments. Remember too that they have to dumb down the sets so they can pack them up and bring them downstate. I think you and all your alumni friends should make an effort to come see Sweeney Todd this spring. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

re: Lake Zurich High School's The Wedding Singer

If you're calling Alex H., who was in the pit during The Wedding Singer one of the most talented kids in the school I would strongly disagree with you. At least when it comes to his singing. I used to go to the church where he sang, so I have heard him "sing" MANY times. And personally I don't think he could sing his way out of a paper bag. I know my parents, and MANY, MANY others I have spoken to agree. I really don't know what Mr. Culver sees in him. But, then again, his favorite musical is Annie. re: Lake Zurich High School's The Wedding Singer

I just did the show at The Prarie Center in Schaumburg (first community theatre in IL. to do it). It's so much fun to do!
