Trying to buy tickets for next Wednesday for a show...trying to decide among:

South Pacific
Gypsy
Next to Normal

I have a feeling most will say Next to Normal since it is not going to be around for much longer, so how would you rank the other shows? Thanks! And sorry for one of these threads.

DEFINITELY NEXT TO NORMAL.

It's closing not too shortly and the other two just started previews plus um the cast at N2N? AMAZING.

Based on it closing the 16th I'd definitely say Next to Normal.

Granted to be honest I saw Gypsy at City Center and really don't feel like seeing it again and have never been a huge fan of South Pacific, so...

But definitely N2N.

NEXT TO NORMAL is complete garbage. You'll feel like you flushed your money down the toilet.

GYPSY is a completely new show from what was displayed at City Center last summer.

SOUTH PACIFIC is a revival of a Pulitzer Prize winning musical that hasn't been seen on Broadway in years.

Don't waste your time or money on NEXT TO NORMAL.

Complete garbage. Other than these words by Foster himself...

"Tom Kitt's score is fantastic -- a blend of traditional musical theatre pop/rock (think PIPPIN) and more modern pop/rock (think TOMMY).

The cast is top notch all around. It's always a pleasant surprise to see former standbys and understudies from past shows finally getting their chance in the spotlight. I was so used to seeing Jennifer Damiano sitting quietly in the bleachers through SPRING AWAKENING, singing along with a microphone while the real action took place center stage. She really shines here in a central role.

Alice Ripley gives a very strong, tender performance, with challenging vocals (she has been recovering from a cold, and it was evident tonight, but her strong acting ability made up for the times when she couldn't land all of the singing moments).

Aaron Tveit has a strong, fierce, rock star quality voice, while at the same time possessing strong, tight acting skills. He and Ms. Ripley are the true stars of the show.

Brian d'Arcy James is pretty great in an underwritten part, and Adam Chanler-Berat is wonderful in an important supporting role."

I don't support the existence of this musical. I do not support people giving money to this musical over a non-damaging piece of theatre.

Non-damaging. Vents falling on people's heads is non-damaging. Lovely.

I suppose if you want to see a Patti LuPone concert in the guise of Gypsy go ahead. I'm saving my money on that one.

Aren't they hoping to eventually bring N2N to Broadway though?

Also, can you get tickets to South Pacific? Seems to be selling well.

Jordan, you have not seen the Broadway production of GYPSY, so your opinion is irrelevant.

I know I don't care for LuPone. The OP asked for opinions. I gave mine and SAID I had not seen the other productions.

Rotel ~ Hoping to and knowing it WILL are two different things.

Skip them all, go see ADDING MACHINE or AUGUST OSAGE COUNTY. Give intelligent theatre a shot, instead of unnecessary revivals and that other thing.

I am going to take South Pacific out of the equation only because it is longer and a bit further away from Times Square than the other theaters. I am going into the city with 3 other people, so I want to have time to spend with them before we see Wicked.

For Gypsy:

Row J orchestra seat 21/22 (which side does Rose come in on?)
Row A balcony seat 11

Which one?

Millie, check your PMs.

Rose comes in from audience right.

I'd say Next to Normal, between the three, because it is worth seeing (like it or not) and because it closes soon. There are lovely performances in South Pacific, but it is quite long and the pacing is very...R&H. Regardles, you should leave Times Square on your visit! Lincoln Center is a just a short but nice walk away. Gypsy; if you saw it last summer you can probably skip it for this trip since you'll be back before it closes, for sure. But, agreed, go for August or Is He Dead? or something that's a bit different. I think we often forget what a wealth of variety NY theatre has to offer.

August is amazing. Go see it. I saw Gypsy at City Center and it was fine, but August: Osage County won't soon be forgotten.

I decided to see Gypsy and got my ticket. I can always see something else Tuesday night, when I will also be there. Thanks!
