I had literally a high ol' time last night at the Cast Party.
Ran into bunches of people fr the Board (Hey, everyone!, esp. MissRidiculous), and the following: the marvelous Fred Barton (who wrote 1 of fav. character pieces "Pour Me A Man" fr "Miss Gulch Returns" [I'm hoping he'll bring this back soon], John Bucchino (whose beautifully poignant song "If I Ever Say I'm Over You" I had just hrs. before heard Susan Neuffer sing at Don't Tell Mama [John, if you're reading this, could I have this song, pretty please?]), Composer/performers Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich did literally take the stage by storm in their 8:30 show, which carried over to the Cast Party, Vickie Phillips (a Bistro Award Winner, chosen by the late great cabaret critic Bob Harrington) was there, Natalie Douglas sang, Billy Stritch jammed w/Steve Doyle on bass, the cast fr Naked Boys Singing were there (clothed), Audrey Lavine & Scott Coulter (whose show "Goin' Home" I so enjoyed) were there, Barbara & Scott Siegel lent their charm to the room. Lionel Casseroux who runs the whole shabang was keeping his eye on everything & making sure things ran smoothly. I've said it once & I'll say it again. Jim Caruso was born to run that Room; he's charming & very funny.
I sang "I Want to Ride the Ferris Wheel" by my good friend Robert Victor Joseph & Alan Menken accompanied by Mark Hartman (who came over after finishing playing for "Ave. Q") on piano & the adorable Steve Doyle. Mark & Steve sightread the piece like old pros & I had a blast being positively manic all over the place because I was having so much fun singing for the great crowd. Those chill'en can make you feel great! It's just like being in the living room of a good friend's penthouse apt. where everyone's having a good time "doing" for ea. other. I recommend all singers to make a B-Line for the King Kong Room next Mon. Last 1 there's a rotten egg...
That's just about the way it was.
