Posted: 7/14/08 at 6:16pmI was just reading online about how Lea Salonga played the Witch in Into the Woods in the Philippines in 1994 (at the age of 23?!). Is there a specific reason why she didn't audition for the 2002 revival and chose to do Flower Drum Song instead? Regardless, I hope the next revival is led by her reprising her role! Opinions welcome!

Posted: 7/14/08 at 6:33pmShe actually did Into The Woods in Singapore, not the Philippines. In any case, Vanessa Williams is a bigger name than she is to the general US audience. It makes sense to go with Ms. Williams. Also, since Flower Drum Song was a rethinking of the original and not just a recreation, Lea had the opportunity to put her own stamp into the role.
