I can't believe they're making Legally Blonde into a Broadway show! They're nuts! I will only see it if Kristin Chenoweth is Elle other wise you can forget it!
Well then forget it. Cheno went on record and said she thought it was a bad idea for a musical, and that she won't be involved.
The great Laura Bell Bundy has been in the workshops.

Well I guess laura is okay but i don't think she is anything great compared with kristin but that's my opinion!

Well for 37 she looks pretty good actually she looks great!
She does look great, but she doesn't look like a girl who just started law school.

But laura would fit the part better as i think of it now because she's way over 4'11 and she looks more like a reese witherspoon

I have to say that I agree...Kristin Chenoweth would not be a good fit. Sorry but she is getting up there in age a little and I think that Laura Bell Bundy would be perfect. It would be great to see her back on stage again. How about Megan Hilty? She is another adorable blonde.
Well Cheno has a million and one projects coming out, so you'll have many opportunities to see her.
I'm afraid our Cheno has left Broadway for now to pursue film and TV.

Don't you think Megan might want a chance to move on and do something else? Of course I still think the role should go to Ms. Bundy. She has been with it now for a while and it would be sad to me if they gave it to someone else if or when it comes to Broadway.

Yeah i do believe megan wants to move on and do something else but i loved her as glinda when i saw her and i just think that she will stay with that part for a while.

Let's not forget that the actress doesn't actually have to be blonde... Wigs, hair dye, anyone?
I think it will work well if done right.
It's a fluffy light-hearted musical comedy and needs to be taken as such. Not EVERYTHING is going to be like a Les Miz or Phantom. Sometimes people want a good pick-me-up and shows like these can provide that.
I am glad to see Laura finally on the track to a starring role on Broadway. I say if she doesn't get it, give it to Kate Reinders. She would also be wonderful.

when i saw Megan in Wicked, i couldn't stop thinking how great she would be as Elle...i think the movie will make a really cute musical. i still vote for Down with Love to be made into a musical. or how about bridget jones' diary? don't we all love how i don't use caps?!

did anyone see Laura on Veronica Mars, she can deff play a ditzy blonde well.
Just because an actress can play Glinda doesn't mean that by default she should play Elle. I really don't see why anyone would adapt Legally Blonde for the stage, but it sounds like it's going to be a hit. Kate Reinders have shown great interest in doing this show, I hope she gets to do it, although I'm pretty sure Bundy will star on the original cast. Someone said Rachel Dratch has been playing Paulette in the workshops which should be fun. As for the comments about Chenoweth being too old for the role, I have to say that I doubt Laura Bell Bundy was an adolescent when she played Amber Von Tussle, and Marissa Jaret Winokur was far from being a high school girl in her Tony-award winning turn in Hairspray. Many performers have played roles much younger than they are. I don't think Chenoweth should play Elle because she already played a ditzy blonde successfully, she doesn't need to do it again. I would have loved to see Christina Applegate in this role though.
Is this thread a joke? And I don't mean whether or not the movie is being made into a Broadway musical.

My biggest fear for this show is that it is a Chitty in the making. We have learned that most people wille not accept lighthearted fun on Broadway.
What?
What is HAIRPSPRAY, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS, THE PRODUCERS and SPAMALOT except light-hearted fun?
This is FAR from a Chitty.
I agree that those are light hearted. I just worry that in terms of critics, there may be some residual feeling left over from chitty. I think it may all depend on the scale of the production, size of theater etc. Oh, and the lack of a flying car as the highlight of the show may help a little.

i am not saying that because someone plays Glinda they would automatically be a good Elle...but the parts are quite similar you must admit..when i saw Megan is was before they were even discussing Legally Blonde as a musical. so she sticks out in my mind.
Kristin is a little too old but she could probably pull it off on stage..did anyone see The West Wing last night..i thought Kristin looked extremely Elle Woods-ish.
personally, i would like to see some new girls in the upcoming shows!
Chitty didn't fail because it was light hearted fun, it failed because it wasn't as good as the competition (The Lion King, and arguably Wicked).
I admit that I'm really looking forwards to Legally Blonde (despite disliking the movie) solely because the score is by the wonderful Larry O'Keefe!
Laura is 24 years old NOW, which means she was 19 or 20 when she started with Hairspray. She was MOST CERTAINLY the appropriate age for Amber von Tussell and (unless they really delay getting Legally Blonde launched) will be an appropriate age to play Elle.
