Is this musical really happening? Not sure about the Bundy for the part. And wasn't this the one that they were going to use Chenoweth for?

Yes, it's happening.
It's opens in April.
No...they're not waiting for Chenoweth. She's almost 40. There's no way she'd be believable as a college student no matter how talented an actress she is.
I think Chenoweth was attached early on and even then it would have been "odd" casting.
I'm not sure about Laura Bundy either. Be thankful is isn't Eden!
Or Sutton or Idina, that list is endless. Chenoweth would have been a disaster. I don't care how "famous" people think she is or how many pink ensembles she wore during the run of Wicked apparently vying for the role, she's too darn old! I'm not convinced that just because Bundy understudied her, she's right either but at least she's age appropriate if nothing else.

I was in Chenoweth's dressing room the night the producers of LEGALLY BLONDE first approached her about it. Yes, they offered it to her. Yes they offered it to her at least half a dozen times. The idea, if she had done the show, was that the entire cast would have been cast older - making the entire piece more of a satire. It probably would have worked as well as what they have now - though the reason she didn't do the show in the first place was because she didn't think the material was all that great.
Sounds like the producers are a bunch of knuckleheads. A satire?! Like I said, it would have been a DISASTER!
Well, I'm not sure it isn't going to be a disaster without her, thats what I was trying to say!
Oh I caught your drift Michael but at least most of the cast is shaping up to be the one solid aspect of the piece.

Wasn't the film a satire in a way? I'm not sure bringing out the satirical elements for the musical would've been disastrous. I'm not sure Laura Bell Bundy is the perfect choice for the role, but we'll see how it fares, I trust Jerry Mitchell's talent.
That was my point as well, to satirize a satire? It would have been terribly redundant.
I just know I'm looking forward to it, Chenoweth or not.
I too thought this project would wind up a disaster, but I was very pleasentley suprised with what I heard on the demo, both with the songs and Bundy (who I was skeptical about also.)
I always thought cheno did not want the part because she did not want to get type casted.
i think she would be wonderful in the role, but Laura i'm sure will do fantastic! let's just hope for the best & a good cast recording...
Chenoweth would have been truly terrible as Elle Woods. She was already pushing 40 when the FILM came out, let alone the musical. And it would have all just been so OBVIOUS.
As for the musical, it's going to be f-ing amazing. Believe me, I saw the workshop and it's really really really solid stuff.
hanging out in Chenoweths dressing room the night it was offered to her? Anyone else having trouble believing this story?
FosterChild I evy you. I am dying to hear one song.
To clarify, lest it seem I am trying to drop names (which I assuredly am not) - I was backstage visiting friends in the cast, was taken by Chenoweth's dressing room after the show and as we were leaving, we were briefly introduced to the the two producers of the movie of LEGALLY BLONDE who were coming in to discuss the musical project with her.

Typecast. There is no such word as casted.

Good Lord. No she wasn't. She was 32 when the movie came out and turned 33 shortly after. If that's pushing 40 then Diana DeGarmo is pushing 30.
I didn't want Chenoweth to do it because she is to old.It is time she does more mature roles that match her age. I am not really all that pleased with the casting of Laura either. This is def dream casting but, I thought Megan Hilty would be perfect for Elle.

sorry jon is offended you.
I love Chenoweth, but it just seemed to me that if she did this show, it would be like "Glinda Part 2." While I loved her as Glinda, I had no desire to watch her do it again as Elle Woods.
However, I am looking forward to her in Apple Tree, and down the line, Young Frankenstein.
