I just wanted to chime in on why Ireland was rewritten. Personally, I think it also had to do with the fact that Ireland and England have a fairly bloody history and there is still some political unrest.

We do have a very bloody history with Irealnd (hell they blew up my city lol) but thats all in the past. I personally don't think they needed to change the lyrics, i can't see that people would have been offended (UK Audiences are used to seeing far worse etc) but they have not killed the song so it's fine.
What makes me laugh is that the show tried to move away from the whole tenison with Ireland in the past, IRA etc and then the first part of the review by the Mail (the only critic who hated it) started with an IRA joke
It was probably an overcompensation. I think even the Irish would laugh at how silly and misinformed Paulette's vision of Ireland is. Riverdance is the icing on the cake. My Irish friends call it "The Lucky Charms" version of Ireland.
