No, not at all. I certainly don't expect you to understand the demands of touring a major show, which is why I am explaining. There are MANY challenges that come into play and they all have to be addressed, especially when trying to recreate a large sit down production in a modular and movable way...

Broadwayguy2, you are a true techie at heart. There is so much more to a show than most people understand...
(I'm the tech nerd as well- It fascinates me!)

Thanks, Kirby.
I started as a child actor, but as I became more aware of the things around me in a theater, my interest grew and I have been heavily studying scenic and costume design with the hope of doing work in that field.. not to mention direction and production...
I am actually working on collecting the entire line of technical theatre books from Focal Press. The newest, Stagecraft Fundamentals, is a PHENOMINAl volume and I hope to purchase it soon.

Hey, I DO hope you get far! My parents always tell me that I need to be ONstage to truly appreciate the entire aspect of theater and tech, but I have thew worst stage fright. And anyways, when I go see a show, the things that first go through my mind are like "How do they do that?" "How do they store that?" And then, I think about the performances. =]
Honestly, I go to shows like Mart Poppins and Shrek to puzzle myself. Of course, when I go to the stage door, I ask performers if my predictions were correct.
(I actually asked John Tartaglia about his nose in Shrek, and he said he couldn't tell me, but I guessed and according to him, I nailed it!) The most puzzling effect in Shrek that to this day, after seeing videos and seeing it live, I cannot figure out how Fiona floats in the wedding sequence.

Posted: 1/28/09 at 2:07pmI'm loving this discussion because I am also interested in the technical aspects of theatre and everything that is essential to make big productions such as Legally Blonde and Wicked work in all kinds of settings. It's amazing how much has to happen off-stage and in the design process for everything to work together.

Saw the show tonight in St. Louis with Laura Bell and the rest of the cast, and the show was phenomenal!
Laura Bell did a fantastic job and it was great for me to see her in the role for the second time.
Mamie Parris did terrific as Paulette.
Love Cortney as Serena. She is so talented!
The whole cast did wonderful!

The amazing sets for the Broadway show required HUGE rebuilds in the theater. There is no way any of that could ever travel. It's actually a really eye-opening piece of video.
