Posted: 3/25/09 at 10:44amOk, first off, this musical is only fun to me because of the music. This music is so catchy to me and is still running through my head this morning. However, WOW, this show is running on empty! It was one of the sloppiest tours I have ever seen. The dancing was all out of sync, about half of the jump rope dancers couldn't jump rope, and Jeff Mclean as Warner looked about 40 years old with a beer gut! Becky was cute at moments, but often came across as trying to be Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods. Amber Efe was on as Paulette and was wonderful. I also enjoyed Colleen Sexton as Brooke. The changes from Broadway were ok, but I did feel like the beginning lost alot without the stairs and such. I just felt like many were phoning it in and all I kept thinking was that Jerry Mitchell would be having a heart attack seeing the performance I saw. I really expected more from this tour especially with the economy down and theaters trying to get people in.

Posted: 3/25/09 at 12:01pmBecky was the weakest Elle on Broadway, too (yes, I saw them all, save for Annaleigh), so I'm not at all surprised to hear this.

Weird. I saw it a few weeks ago in Orlando and I thought it was the most energetic and fun tour that I've seen in awhile. The smaller cast and the set reduction didn't bother me at all. I thought the show was tight and everyone was on their A game.
But to each their own. =]

Maybe they were having an off night. It seems that gaedu and I have the same critiques.

Posted: 3/25/09 at 4:10pmIts not an off night, I thought the same thing when I saw it in DC. I just don't think Becky is right for Elle, because, like the OP stated, shes acting like someone else playing Elle, rather than being Elle.

Posted: 3/25/09 at 4:15pmThe jump rope number when the show played in DC was really sloppy, too.

Posted: 3/25/09 at 4:22pmKyle was Ven Daniel. Quite the cutie! He did seem to be having a good time when I saw the show in W. Palm Beach.

Bailey had a lot more charisma and charm than Becky did. Both times I saw Becky, her performance bored me. The technical part of her performance was on the money- she was competent enough. However, she had zero star power or ability to carry the show. Hanks was much more engaging.
None of the Elles, however, were nearly as good as Haven Burton.

Posted: 3/25/09 at 6:43pmGlad to hear COLEEN Sexton's still going strong. Great performer!! She was my favourite part (surprise, surprise) when I saw it in Philly a while back...but I wouldn't say the tour lacked energy? In fact, I thought the cast seemed to be really enjoying performing in the show!

I don't think I agree with that. Haven had some amazing pipes that's for sure...but I thought she was a really weak dancer when I saw her as Margot and i doubt it was that much better as elle. She really does have a great voice though one of my favorites.
By the way, what's with all the Becky hate? I feel like when she was the understudy for lbb everyone was in love with her. Everything I've seen of her (online vids/audios) I thought she's looked/sounded really good and most people seem terrible from those things and are always 1000x better live...

Posted: 3/26/09 at 3:54pmI saw the show in Houston and was lucky enough to see LBB, but I agree Warner was not the hottie he was supposed to be. Not in shape and could have played Dewy with out much work. I was not at all impressed with him.

I also saw the tour in Orlando and loved it. Ive seen it three times on Broadway and didnt expect the same spectacle. I knew it was scaled down, but for me it worked.I felt it was tastfully done in its medium.
My only complaint was that the orchestrations sounded very poorly put together and the music wasnt loud enough. I expected to be blown away by the orchestra during What You Want, Bend and Snap and Whipped into Shape like I was on broadway but I was a little disapointed,
I was very impressed with the cast. They had alot of energy and seemed to be having alot of fun. I LOVED Becky. She was one of my favorite and I've seen LBB twice and Bailey. She actually made me cry during So Much Better. She was much warmer than LBB. LBB was very sarcastic as Elle and Bailey sounded like Barbie Elle Woods.

Posted: 3/27/09 at 4:05amjigblob, from what I understand and what is rumored to be the case, Haven hated the show and wanted some more things added to her resume. Granted, that makes Haven sound like a horrible person but I've heard nothing but nice things from those who have met her. I really don't think this "added to my resume" thing is the case. Her Margot, from what I've seen on the forbidden site, could not have been better! She kicks Ashford's butt, that for sure. She was not annoying and did something completely different from just being a dumb Sorority girl, if that makes sense? As far as her Elle is concerned, she flubbed a few things here and there, but all-in-all, the girl is a star! She out-sang LBB and gave Elle Woods some depth that wasn't there during the MTV telecast, the only chance I was able to see LBB. Haven has made a huge fan out of me.

Posted: 3/27/09 at 2:42pmCan you elaborate on the depth Haven added to Elle? I had the opposite reaction to her Elle; although, I must admit that I have only seen clips of her performance on the forbidden site.

Posted: 3/27/09 at 6:22pmShe didn't jump around and act like she was trying to act like a sorority girl. She wasn't trying too hard--she just did it! Bailey is the ultimate offender of trying too hard because she's just not genuine in the role. Laura Bell was completely over the top, but it definitely worked. Haven, I feel, really had something to prove--and she freaking did. I actually felt something following the moment Callahan hits on her. I didn't feel that way for LBB or Bailey.

Posted: 3/27/09 at 7:24pmI saw the tour in West Palm Beach last week and I truly enjoyed Becky's performance; she did miss somethings in the script that could have been used better. The tour to me was weak except Becky, BD Bonds, Natalie Johnson, Crystal Joy, and Gretchen Gurbhart. I understood that they were all getting very tired from traveling and performing this energy driven show, but that should not have stopped everyone from doing their best. I paid $160 for my seats and i expected to see the show not the actors being tired on stage.

?from what I understand and what is rumored to be the case, Haven hated the show and wanted some more things added to her resume.?
^I think I read that rumor on here a long time ago, but I don?t believe it. She seemed like she enjoyed being in LB a lot. There are some actors who have supposedly hated some shows they were in, but I doubt Haven is one of them.
?Her Margot, from what I've seen on the forbidden site, could not have been better! She kicks Ashford's butt, that for sure. She was not annoying and did something completely different from just being a dumb Sorority girl, if that makes sense??
I have to disagree. I didn?t like Haven?s Margot. I did love her Elle though.
