Len Cariou's "Broadway and the Bard"

Tonight I saw Len Cariou's one-man revue "Broadway and the Bard" Off-Broadway, and I really enjoyed it. As someone who is a fan of Cariou, musical theatre AND Shakespeare, it was quite the triple-whammy for me. His voice is not what it used to be, but his acting is so clear and committed throughout.

It would have been easy for him to do a sort of "greatest hits" of Shakespeare and classic musical theatre and be done with it. But instead he carefully chooses each monologue and song so that they build off each other, support each other and shed new light on each other.

It's a small and simple evening, but also very creative and enjoyable. I got a $20 general rush ticket which wasn't too hard to obtain. I'd definitely recommend popping over to Theatre Row to catch it, especially if you're a fan of Cariou, Shakespeare and/or classic Broadway.

Yes it's the same theatre. I don't know much about Musicals Tonight's history of financial troubles, but there was a poster for the company in the lobby of Theatre Row. I saw their production of "Oh, Kay!" back in December(?), and their website says they're doing Babes in Arms in March. So I'm assuming they are fine.
