"Twenty Million People" from MY FAVORITE YEAR is my favorite. I also think the rest of the score is fantastic, but was let down by a horrible book.
Oh yeah! West Side Story has brilliant opening! I also agree with how ineffective the beginning of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels was. I know they rewrote the opening song for the tour but it was not much better.
I like "Comedy Tonight" opening for "A Fummy Thing Happened on The Way to the Forum". It always stands out in my memory.
I very much agree with GRAND HOTEL, Smaxie.

I love the opening to Aida. Just Brilliant!
The Wedding Singer has a great opening number too.
A Chorus Lines opening is a bit long but then again the whole show is like an hour and a half of dancing. What do you expect?
The Producers opening I just plain didn't like.
