I may get lambasted for this, but...is John Lennon's music(note: not Beatles music) as universally known as, say, Elvis or the Beach Boys? In the article, I have to be honest, I only could hum off-hand a couple of the songs listed for the show. Granted, I didn't think ABBA was as universally known and yet Mamma Mia still sells out. Any thoughts?
I grew up adoring John Lennon's work as Beatle, but finding his solo work difficult to take in large doses. However, he certainly had quite a dramatic life, and even though it has been staged before, I think a well-done presentation might interest older audiences who "grew up with him", as well as younger audiences who are just discovering his work. It seems that John's life has taken on almost mythological proportions, due to his heartbreaking murder. I would pay to see an honest account of his life, with or without music.
