Did anyone see the original Les Miserables at the Broadway or even better at Washington for its try out? What did you think?

Alas, I did not catch the original Broadway cast and the earliest I can claim to have seen the show live on stage is 23 June, 1989 @ the Shubert in Los Angeles (Yes. Still remember the exact date!). I was 11 in '89 and I had already been barred from attending an earlier opportunity to see the Los Angeles production due to having gotten a "D" in math, somehow I doubt I would have had a way to fly to NYC or Washington at age 8 or 9. Mother would have laughed in my face, lol.

I know Best12Bars saw the original Broadway cast and by all accounts he thought they were nifty.
