Haha I saw it!

BRILLIANT commentary on stunt casting!
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

This show is genius. Anyone not watching it - you don't know WHAT you're missing.

Even the vomit scene had me cracking up - and that usually grosses me out.

I thought of avenue Q too. Who saw the Sound of Music reference on one of the earlier episodes with stewie as Liesl and So Long Farewell performed. So funny. Stunt casting spoof on les miz was so on target too. :)

re: Les Mis ref. on Family Guy!

yes - great spoof - though R&H society (or whatever) wouldn't let them do a PARODY, so they did it straight, which in and of itself was hilarious.

re: Les Mis ref. on Family Guy!

Didn't the Simpsons also spoof stunt casting with Mark Hamill in Guys and Dolls or something?

re: Les Mis ref. on Family Guy!

There are so many referances on Family Guy. I love it all.
I'm not a gay stereotype. I'm a coincidence.

R&H Society? They wouldn't let them do a spoof on Sound of Music, but it's fine for KING & I? Honestly, I don't think they need permission to do a parody. Just look at Forbidden Broadway and SNL and MadTV.

re: Les Mis ref. on Family Guy!

I read it somewhere - that they wouldn't let them do an out and out parody. I don't know how they got away with the King and I one...

It was brilliant! I haven't watched the show in over a year and by chance, I caught it tonight.

Hehe Kirk Cameron as Valjean. Ew!

Thet have done West Side Story, Fiddler, Sound of Music, Gypsy, Les Miz. FIDDLER starred William Shatner!

KRISTEN CHENOWETH To show my gratitude, I'll offer you this pointy black hat, which is just like the one Original Wicked Witch Margaret Hamilton wore in the movie! IDINA MENZEL What a great idea! How about throughout the play, you continue to offer me things like a black cloak, or a black cape, or a broom to make me look more and more like Margaret Hamilton did! These attempts at humor will be painfully predictable from a mile away! AUDIENCE collectively groans.

BabyJohn, Thanks for reminding me for the William Shatner reference. *hysterical laughter* I love Family Guy!

re: Les Mis ref. on Family Guy!

Yep, Seth MacFarland (creator and several voices) said on that episode's DVD commentary that the SoM parody's lyrics had to be submitted to the Rodgers and Hammerstein Foundation in advance for their approval, so they took extra care to make sure it wasn't overtly offensive or making fun of the material.

I know parody is protected by law, but maybe Fox just wanted to be extra sure not to offend anyone? Kind of like Weird Al Yankovic - he asks permission (and pays royalties) to everyone he spoofs.
