I will also add that when you have seen the same production around the world, it is not unreasonable to expect to see that production on Broadway. Yes, a bit of research would have told him that this revival is a new production, but that does not mean that he does not know what a revival is. Let's not forget the previous revival of Les Mis did match the old format.

Actually, the previous revival did not match the format.. Ot had new orchestrations and some new design elements, e.. It was just LARGELY based on the original.
As far as this production, it IS playing in numerous productions around the world.

This is not entirely true. If the show has never closed on Broadway, like Phantom and Lion King, then sure, the show remains the same and the experience can be repeated. But when a show comes back, there shouldn't be any expectation that they are just trying to replicate the original, unless that is expressly the point, like with the Chorus Line revival or the recent Cabaret revival revival.
If you go to Les Miz, you know you will get that story, those songs (and I did find On My Own, Dreamed a Dream to be rushed in this production), etc., not necessarily the turntable, specific staging, etc.

I only wish I could enjoy those cute little cups of chocolate ice-cream in my seat at a Broadway house.

Several Broadway theaters now also have staff selling food (usually candy) and drinks in the aisles both before the show and during intermission, but I've not (yet) seen them selling ice cream cups like they do in the West End.
