I just posted this on All That Chat, so forgive me.....
Okay folks....
I am OBSESSED with the famous video of Leslie Uggams going up on the words for "June Is Bustin' Out All Over." It's truly incredible and I've been doing some searching and I wonder....
Does anybody know WHAT happened?!??! Has she ever spoken about this?? It's a relatively famous clip so she has to have been asked about it from time to time. What happened?? Please someone shed light on this mystery.
Girlfriend didn't know the lyrics. So she bull****ted through them, like any professional would. My personal favorite video is the one with subtitles. But the fact of the matter is, most of the people in that audience probably didn't even notice that she flubbed most of the lyrics.

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

The best part of the video is the face of that Queen in the linen jacket on the aisle as Leslie creeps by singing something like "the hubas and the jeebas and the zeepas and the deebas" - he knew exactly what the words were supposed to be...
And yes, Uggums has talked about it on talk shows: its one of those mortifying things that won't ever go away, but she has a good sense of humour about it.

I hate June is Bustin' Out All Over so much...I haven't seen it, but I'd probably like her lyrics more...
"We don't value the lily less for not being made of flint and built to last. Life's bounty is in it's flow, later is too late. Where is the song when it's been sung, the dance when it's been danced? It's only we humans who want to own the future too."
- Tom Stoppard, Shipwreck
And just thinking about this makes me laugh. I give her credit for forging on, but I really would have loved to have seen the "bubble" over her head in terms of what she was thinking while this was happening.

I've seen it and love it- heard from someone at one point that she didn't have her glasses on and couldn't read the cue cards that had all the lyrics on them - but that may just be a rumor. It IS one of the funniest things I've ever seen, though.
"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!"

Hey, as long as she has a good sense of humour about the whole thing - who cares? I adore her - she still has a magnificent voice - I saw her perform last year in a tribute to Harold Arlen at The Museum of Radio and Television, singing "The Man That Got Away" and it was perfect - not a wrong note or turn of a phrase, and it sounded beautiful. Ms. Uggams - you GO girl.
