Songs are so often associated by the person who did the definitive version. This thread is not about them.

I wanna hear the good, the bad, and the ugly of songs done by someone *else* ...

I'll get you started.

GOOD: Taylor, the Latte Boy -- as done by Kate Monster at the Avenue Q initial readings, presented when they were still pitching it as a TV show. Stephanie did tremendous justice to this song, and I still prefer it to the ubiquitous Kristin Chenoweth version.

UGLY: Mandy Patinkin does 'Somewhere Thats Green' on his Experiment CD. I think Mandy was experimenting with several types of chemicals when this was made.

GOOD

On his 'Live At The Donmar' album, Philip Quast sings Springsteen's 'The River'. I SO prefer it to Springsteen's original that it's not even funny.

Also, John Barrowman does the greatest 'Being Alive' I've ever heard. He also does a pretty incredible 'The Wizard And I'. ^_^

Wow, I didn't know "Taylor, The Latte Boy" was originally involved in AVENUE Q.
